Oh boy a real subject to talk about for once.  But first, let me explain why there have been no new updates to this website in the last month or so:  I’ve been writing.  Trying to finish the first draft of a new screenplay and the last 30 pages or so have been a real dog for some reason.

Seeing this in the news:

http://www.cnn.com/2002/HEALTH/12/30/cnna.cloning.rael/index.html

really got me to thinking and I hate that.  Frankly if my life consisted of 24 hours a day drinking, or playing video games, or tapped into an IV of heroin, I’d be fine.  I really don’t need the struggle that actually firing neurons can cause.

In case you’re under a rock or something, this group of people calling themselves Raelians (http://www.rael.org/) are claiming to have produced the first clone.  If you go to the website you’ll see Rael, the spiritual leader of the group and he’ll explain how the group came to be.  First off, he claims to have met aliens on a mountain somewhere by simple accident (he was driving alone and thought, “hey I should stop here for a walk”).  These aliens told him the secret of the world, that being that all life on earth was created by them and that in 2034 or something they (the aliens) will return to further complicate our already confused lives I guess.

Is it just me or is the idea that this guy, Rael, putting himself up as spiritual leader of a group of science minded aliens who mastered genetics a little to close to the idea of our friends that bordered the Hale-Bop comet a few years ago?  Why would a race of aliens need a spiritual human leader to guide the humans?  What kind of arsine approach to religion is this.  Frankly, that alone stinks this whole thing up.  And it’s that part of it that really pisses me off.

You see cloning could be a good thing.  Just like anything else humans do, it both has a good side and a bad side.  Even though I think humans are better as fertilizer than I do at being people, I believe that in general human beings would use cloning for doing good things.  Like what?  I’m sure some would use it to further increase the population of this planet, that’s a selfish act, but good in it’s own way.  But I’m mostly talking about the medical benefit of genetic replacement parts.  We human beings are on the verge of becoming nearly immortal, solely by the simple idea of replacement parts.   I don’t want to take this quick rant onto a tangent about the nature of living and dying.  Let’s just say, that as it stands now, aging, is a function of the body not a function of time.  To reverse the aging process means to change the nature of our genes (Y1 & Y2).  These two genes dictate the growing process.  Y1 starts the process in our youth and Y2 ‘ends’ the process in our maturity.  At present changing the Y1Y2 pair would only make things worse.  If Y1 never turned off, we’d never die of old age, but probably wouldn’t live much past 30 anyway, do to the all the complications of continual growth.  Anyway, since this Y1Y2 issue seems a long way off (not to mention that chemical biology, such as the effect of oxygen on the body, are still a barrier to cross) the easiest way to increase life span would be create replacement parts for the body that exists today.  The best way to do this would cloning new parts from the host so that the exact part would work perfectly.

What these idiots, the Raelians, have done is to quite possibly put an end to cloning as a whole.  It won’t take to long for the supposed Free/Non Religious governments of the ‘rational’ world to climb up from their slumber and call this whole thing an abomination.  At which point they’ll outright outlaw it.  In countries that don’t pretend freedom, people who practice it will be summarily eliminated.   So when you’re 63 and you’re knees are shot, you’re heart is ticking louder and louder, and your blackened lungs are eating away at you…remember to blame the religions of the world for you eventual death.  Remember that those religions who claim that life is beautiful and sacred, are the ones that refused to allow the technology that would have saved your life.  And these same people are claiming that science is playing god, when everyday they hold off science by claiming the name of god, they hold off a helping hands that could one day save more lives than a single solitary religious figure did in their whole lives…don’t believe me, read Joshua.

Is it a fraud?  I don’t know.  I read a little about cloning and during those times of lucidity where the text wasn’t boring me to tears, what I gained from it was that it really shouldn’t be that difficult.  Oh, it might be, but maybe there is a simple way of doing it that no one thought.  I don’t know.  But saying that, I really do think that these alien morons have more to loose by supporting a fraud than they do by supporting the reality of a clone.  If they are exposed as frauds it destroys their religion.  Their funds will dry up very, very quickly.  If it’s real, then they stand to make more people believers in their insanity.  But it could be that they are completely nuts and that it is all just a ploy from the beginning.  After all, people believe in all sorts of impossible things that defy not only logic, but historical evidence.  So the very idea that someone would intentionally perpetrate a hoax is possible: ie. Branch Davidians (http://www.religioustolerance.org/dc_branc.htm)  and Jonestown (and speaking of Jonestown you HAVE to read this: http://www.jonestown.com/.  Jesus Christ.  MK-Ultra?  I thought that thing was finally done).

I wish I were very, very rich.  I’d just buy my own country and set it up as a science society.  Science only, that would be the new religion.  And we’d mass produce our own army from genetically engineered animals as well as building micro-war machines that transformer into animals.  Stupid world.
