The Ciantars ensure their atmost to make your stay at Cantina Sant'Angelo a memorable experience. We work to achieve the best quality and service for our patrons to enjoy.
The 17th Century premises that houses this wine bar was probably built by a wealthy merchant. One reason for this is that only rich people were allowed to have a stone carved arch in such a way as the one downstairs.  The other reason is that at the top of the house there is a turret where one can see all the Valletta harbour. It may have been built so that the merchant could look out for his ships.

The current structure of Cantina Sant Angelo has evolved through the ages. The building is set on a 3 storey level, but this wasnt always the case. This house formed part of a much larger building or palace. One can observe this from the closed archway on the second floor. This means that the first floor was therefore much higher than it is today and that it formed part of a larger hall during earlier times.

Thats not all! Just beneath Cantina Sant Angelo lays a bell shaped silo, which was later used as a well. It was built by the Knights of Malta circa 1590. This silo was used to store wheat imported from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Such silos were administered by the Old Universita, which is found just a corner away from wine bar.
Our kitchen follows a very Mediterranean food concept.  Our daily menu is small but made with the freshest ingredients.  It consists of various platters, dips and Ftiras (Maltese round flat bread, similar in size to Pizza) which compliment the pleasure of wining. All our platters can be shared. To keep our customers happy, we change our menu from time to time so that they always find something different and tasty.

We also cater for all kinds of groups and events.  We have a seating capacity of 35, and that makes it the ideal venue for birthday parties, reunions or get together between friends.  Tailor-made menus will be gladly accommodated.
