Studio 6001 is an artist’s cooperative located at 6001 Pimlico Rd., Mt. Washington, Maryland. Studio 6001 has been presenting bi-annual, outdoor shows since 1990. The number of participants vary with between 25-35 artists available for each show, however the thrust for each show remains constant: paintings, drawings and sculpture that reflect a high level of academic skill smoothly blending in with unusual and highly imaginative themes that are in harmony with their respective mediums. The paintings, sculptures, drawings and collages speak for themselves and do not require any lengthy intellectual interpretation to either explain or justify their existence. Photography is also present at many shows with the criteria also being a well orchestrated merger of composition and craft. Ceramic jewelry, decorative furniture, along with handmade articles of clothing, and soaps are also a mainstay of each exhibit often displayed too are works produced by a younger artists, many of which are still a handing secondary level school. The show are held on the one acre residence of the studio’s founder and director. Moris Wolk, a sculptor and Maryland Institute graduate who retired in 2001 after 27 years of teaching art in various Baltimore city high schools (North Western being the most recent and for the longest tenure). Spring shows are always on the 3rd Sunday in May with Autumn shows also on the Sunday being presented in late September or sometime in October (with rain dates for both shows) Artists pay a modest expense fee and are not charged a commission. New participants are welcome, however since invitations are mailed 2-3 weeks prior to each show, both the Spring and Fall show’s roster of artists is usually established 4-6 weeks prior to the date of the show. Ample parking exists. Studio 6001 shows are free of an admission charge. Any further information may be obtained through news or by phoning 410-764-5611.
