Erie Ice Rinks

All directions assume you started by following I-79 North to Erie.

Erie Civic Center

Directions from Wexford:

1.  
2. Take I-90 East to Exit 24 (old exit 6) north.
3. Follow Route 19 north (Peach St.) to West 8th Street.
4. Turn right go 2 blocks to French St.
5. Turn right (rink is on left)

This is a case where the route that is the easiest to follow isn't really the best route. If you are in a hurry the Alternate route might be better. If you aren't in a hurry you should try the alternate route. I've been to the rink three times and have used the US 19 exit route. The only bad thing about it is a farily long urban section up to 8th Street. It is easy to follow and the US 19 exit area has a lot of hotels and restaurants.

Alternate

·  I-79 North to 12th St., Exit 183 (old exit 44) (Rt. 5) East.

·  Take 12th St. east approximately 2.2 miles to State St. (Light).

·  Turn left onto State St. (North).

·  Go 3 blocks to 9th St. (Light) and turn right (East).

·  Go 1-1/2 blocks to Civic Center.

·  Parking Ramp is on the left.

Directions from Wexford:

1. Take I-90 East to Exit 29 (old exit 8) north.
2. Follow Rt. 8 North (Pine Ave) to East 38th St. (Arby's on Northwest corner)
3. Turn right and follow East 38th Street to McClelland Avenue (Country Fair and Pennzmart-at intersection).
4. Turn left and cross railroad tracks (Rink is on right)

3. Turn right go to first light (rink is on right, off Cherry Street.) If you get to the Zoo you went a block too far.

Directions from Wexford:

1. Take I-90 East to Exit 29 (old exit 8) north.
2. Follow Rt. 8 North (Pine Ave) to East 38th St. (Arby's on Northwest corner)
3. Turn left and go 2 blocks to Briggs Avenue.
4. Turn left and go about 2 blocks and turn right (entrance to Mercyhurst College).
5. Rink is straight ahead, next to the ball field

If you miss Biggs Avenue you can turn into the main college entrance and follow the signs to the left back to the rink.

I suspect the College web page description is easier to follow but I didn't try it...

• From Pittsburgh: I-79 North to I-90 East to Erie, Exit 27 (old exit 7). 130 miles.
• From Exit 27: (State Street Exit)
1. Take Rt. 97 North for one mile to Jct. 505.
2. Veer right and continue on Rt. 97 North (Old French Road) to East 38th Street.
3. Turn right,
4. Four blocks to Mercyhurst College.

Alternate:

5. I-79 North to Exit 180 (old exit 41) (Kearsarge).
6. At the end of the ramp (Stop sign) turn right (East).
7. At the second light the road comes to a "T".
8. Turn left onto Peach St. (Rt. 19).
9. Go North on Peach St. approximately 2.2 miles to 38th St. (Light).
10. Turn right onto 38th St. (East).
11. Go 2 Blocks - JMC Rink on right side.

While I generally have done one rink per web page I chose to lump these into one.  Igloo, Mercyhurst, and the Zoo rink all set off of East 38th Street and you can take Exit 24, 27 or 29 off of I90 to get to any of them.
The Zoo rink is just East of Peach Street. (Exit 24)
Mercyhurst is just East of State Street.(Exit 27)
and Igloo Ice Arena is just East of 8 North (Exit 29)

The Civic Center is the oddball in that it is 38 blocks north in downtown Erie.
