Final Fantasy ROM
The world is veiled in darkness. The wind stops, the sea is wild, and the earth begins to rot.
The people wait, their only hope, a prophecy....
'When the world is in darkness, four warriors will come....'
After a long journey four young warriors arrive, each holding an ORB.
Final Fantasy is the first role playing game produced by Squaresoft in the Final Fantasy series, for this reason the quality of the game is incredibly limited by comparison to the most recent releases.
Four warriros come to the planet when it is under threat of destruction from the four elemental fiends, Earth, Fire, Water and Wind. Playing as the four warriors it is your task to kill the fiends thus making the orbs that you have brought with you shine again.
The graphics are poor, as is the quailty of the music and sound, storyline and character development, but for a first release in 1987, you wouldn't have complained at the time.

Final Fantasy II ROM
In a far off land a long peace has ended. The Paramekian Empire has summoned Hellsprawn in hopes to rule the world...
The people of Phin fought bravely for their kingdom...and lost.
Now four of Phin's youth must flee to Altea, with the enemy just behind...
Final Fantasy II was the second in the Final Fantasy Series to be released in 1988, however it was never released in any English speaking nation.
The Parmekian Empire has caused chaos in it's attempts to rule the world, three of Altea's youth (a city recently attacked by the empire) escape and hope to fight back.
Playing as these three charcters and others who you meet along the way, it is your task to stop the Empire and bring peace back to the land.
The graphics really aren't much better than those in Final Fantasy, the quality of the music is slightly improved - it sounds less mechanical and bitty. The story line is better than that of Final Fantasy because more is explained than just 'go here and do this' like it was previously. As opposed to no characterisation Final Fantasy II not only has playable characters who respond to what people say, but have a small bit of background and conflict behind them.

Final Fantasy III ROM
The Gurgan quietly spoke "...This earthquake is but an omen. The tremors that pulled the crystals into the earth and brought the monsters forth are nothing compared to the darkness which will come..."
But hope is not yet lost. Four souls will take up the quest of the light.
And so it begins.
Four orphans have been raised by the high preist Topapa in the remote village of Ur. A crystal has sunk into the earth due to the earthquake, and the four boys have come in an adventurous mood. They had only intended to test their courage.
Final Fantasy III was the third Final Fantasy game to be produced in the series. It was released in 1990, however it was never released in any English speaking nation, similar to Final Fantasy II.
Four Orphans from Ur decide to test their courage and end up becoming Light Warriors who need to restore the balance of Light and Dark in their world.
Playing as these four charcters with a couple of others who will follow you and aid your quest you have to return the stability of Light and Dark and stop both from becoming void.
The graphics are better than those in Final Fantasy I & II but not by much, the music is very similar to that of Final Fantasy II, little has been done to improve or differ it, the sound is also similar to that of Final Fantasy II. The story line is good although it has fewer twists than those of Final Fantasy II, what little it had. The characterisation is also a step down from those in Final Fantasy II, you are given a background for the four main characters however their individual background isn't as developed.

Final Fantasy IV ROM
This is probably the most boring Final Fantasy I've played to date. Okay that might be because I ended playing almost all of it about six times and then had my game deleted before I reached the end. It was released in (a date I can't remeber but will check up on later) for the Snes console.
The kingdom of Baron is under the influence of evil, whilst on a mission set by the king, Cecil becomes aware of the impending situation and through a series of events goes about the destruction of this evil.
You play as Cecil, the Dark Knight under the service of Baron, and along with many disasterous events, you and your friends set about stopping Baron and it's quest for power.
The graphics have improved since Final Fantasy III as well as the music. The storyline and characterisation are significantly more developed and despite my earlier complaints, the story is more entertaining than the in the previous of the series.

During mid-play my Brother managed to wipe my game. I've got nearly to the end, but never managed to get as far as the last boss and then...'I need to install a new modem, let me reconfiguer everything...opps got to reformat the computer because the mouse doesn't work anymore'.
Final Fantasy VI ROM
|
Released in (again a date I'll have to check up on later), Final Fantasy VI was obviously so popular that it was more recently re-released for the Playstation. It was also the first Final Fantasy to be released with movie footage.
Again the world is under the struggle of an Empire striving for world domination.
In this Final Fantasy you don't specifically play as one character, you play as a group of them throughout the game. Ultimately you are trying to achieve the goal of the Returners and stop the Empire and their Magiteck armor withstraining freedom and peace.
Again the graphics have improved and so has the sound and music. The plot is good with lots of mini-sub plots around the main one. Also given the number of characters there is a lot of characterisation, and it's good too.
Battle System: 5/10
Movie Graphics: 7/10
Music and Sound: 5/10
Playing Graphics: 5/10
Storyline and Characterisation: 7/10
