ONGOING STORY

This is a project me and a friend started, just to see how things would turn out, as she said "The more the merrier", so feel free to contribute to the next part of the story by writing the next few paragraphs in the text-box at the bottom, along with your alias.

"Ahh," I groaned crouching with one knee to the floor. "Well done."

"Come on, you didn't think that you could avoid that forever now did you?" he grinned "I was going to beat you someday."

"Guess I shouldn't have been so slack on my training. Never thought you'd get that good though Maithew."

He offered me a hand and I took it to get up. A sharp blast of what seemed like static ran through us but it was amazingly strong, not the tiny twinge you get normally, too strong for most humans to withstand. I knew why I had survived, but him, he shouldn't have? I scowled but asked innocently "What was that Maithew?"

"I don't know Shara, why don't you tell me?" he responded in the same mock innocence.

"We should talk, we'll go to my room."

"No, we'll go to mine."

The Lighter Side Of Darkness
"I don't think it would be advisable to go to either of your rooms." A deep voice answered.

I turned around and saw it was Pwenloppe, the Master Matial arts teacher as well as an experienced practicer of Magick. His sudden interruption shocked both Maithew and I. Once I had overcome the initial shock I asked him "Why would that be?"

"It is simple," he replied "that feeling you both experienced was unusual. Yes?"

We both nodded and Pwenloppe began to explain "It is not a normal feeling, it is very rare. That feeling can only occur between two stalwarts. You are, quite literally, powerful."

elsceyb
Really, but I thought that it was, hmm, I guess it makes sense, sort of. I wonder if he knows, am I really a 'Stalwart' or is it just her power festering inside me that makes me seem like one? "Pwenloppe, what caused that?"

"It is hard to explain and I can't say that it is guaranteed as a good thing."

She grunted, she knew that. "I think, maybe it would be best that you find out for yourselves" he sighed. "Still, as I advised; stay away from each other until you are aware of what the consequences of being stalwarts are."

The Lighter Side Of Darkness
I knew he would say that, none of the elders liked Maithew and I being together. This stalwart business gave them the perfect excuse to keep us apart - but it wouldn't work. When Pwenloppe had finally left I spoke to Maithew "You do realise this is just an excuse to stop us fighting each other."

"It is?" he replied a little stunned that I'd actually believed that.

"Yeah, it is. I heard Pwenloppe and some other teacher discussing it, they don't want us to become better fighters than Jankson, this training we do together is getting them scared." I told him what I had overheard a few days ago.

"Does this mean the whole Stalwart thing is a joke?" he asked.

"I don't know, we'll have to do some research. But I think we should keep meeting each other, it may just have to be a little later than usual.

We'll also have to discuss the stalwart thing, but keep it hidden from the teachers. Agreed?" I asked him.

"Yeah, agreed" he answered.

I sighed, as if finding out what she was wasn't enough for me to deal with, now I've got to find out what a 'stalwart' is.

Stalwart - Having or marked by imposing physical strength. Firm and resolute; stout. One who is physically and morally strong. One who steadfastly supports an organization or cause: party stalwarts.

What did that have to do with anything, most fighters are stalwarts in these terms? Still, if the elders are concerned about our power then Maithew and I must be strong. As for loyalties and strong morals, I'm just stubbon, and anyway how can you have loyalties when your part demon? Do I even have any loyalties?

Friends, yea I guess Maithew is a friend, I talk to him, but to what extent are the few loyalties that I have?

Friend, tuh, he's your rival, an opponent, an obstacle to overcome, you shouldn't have let him win.

I didn't let him win besides he's my training partner.

Tuh, you've got a lot to learn.

The Lighter Side Of Darkness
I stopped the inward battle between my brain and went to find something to eat. Food: always good when I've just been working out and doubly good now that I had research to do.

I could feel the demon aching inside of me, dusk was approaching and it wanted to take over. Hell, it always wanted to take over, the darkness just fed it's desire even more.

I turned a corner and almost knocked into a dark oak-wood table-a regular occurance for me and this table. I looked on the desk, often students and teachers would leave notes here to free up some time. I rarely got any post, but it still interested me to look.

Yes. I thought to myself. I had recieved a small enveloped with black calligraphy writing on it. I opened it to see what it was and who it was from.

When a stalwart comes to power,
Four more will rise within the hour.
The stalwart alone will be able to control these four,
If that is not managed the end of Gaia will dawn.
A lot will depend on the stalwarts desisions,
And they will gain friends and enemies,
They will be decieved and played.
Yet the stalwart alone will have this power,
Whether they remain a stalwart will depend on how they handle that power.

Great, it isn't every day that I get some strange poetic threat or prediction, or whatever this is. I decided that maybe I should see Maithew about this, not that he'd really pay much attention, but his ego could prove useful.

Feel free to add the next few paragraphs, the submission will be e-mailed to me, so it might be a while until you see your post up.
