Cornelia Funke's Fine Fiction

The first Cornelia Funke book I ever read was Inkheart. I was pulled into the story so effectively that I was surprised that I hadn't heard of this children's book author before. Then I learned that she is a German author. International authors tend to have a harder time becoming popular in the United States. However, Funke has done a phenominal job of making her mark on American children's fantasy literature.

Dragon Rider is another great book. My favorite character is the brownie girl, who looks more like a cat that walks on its hind legs than an elf or fairy from classical literature.

Thief Lord was the third Funke book that I read, but it was the first that the author wrote. It's interesting because it was set in Venice, Italy. My favorite character in this book is the bumbling private eye.

I was thrilled to find out that 2005 was the year that Ms. Funke decided to have Inkspell, the sequel of Inkheart, hit the market. I haven't finished it yet, but it is nice to find out what happens next to the beloved characters in book one.

Comments about Advanced Web Elements

I have had nothing but trouble with this assignment. I have tried making the form element at least three separate times using different strategies. My latest form you will find following the "fill out a survey" link on the left side of the screen. I used it making Dreamweaver, and it should work. I can't test it, however, because I can't figure out how to set up an email profile account that my computer requires when I hit the "submit" button. I have to know something about either a HTTP email account or a POP3 email account, and I don't know the incoming and outgoing server names!

For my javascript elements, I made a current time and date that runs right below the horizontal line in the center column. I also made an "onmouseover" javascript that causes a line of text to appear at the bottom of the browser when the mouse cursor is over the "L571" link in the left table column.

Usability Testing

I tested the page using Internet Explorer and AOL browsers. Both do not give any problems, from what I can tell.

I tested the page using the 1024x768 sized monitor and it is easy to see the whole screen. When I switched to 600x800 size, the text size was very large and the table frames were swished. There's not much that you can do about that though.

In 32-bit color, it is easy to distinguish the contrasting colors. In 16-bit color, I can still distinguish the colors easily.
