AMERICAN DONKEY AND MULE SOCIETY - DONKEY AND MULE COLORS DONKEY color terminology used by the registry is being changed by executive order. The following basic colors will be used, with any modifiers or descriptives following in the Description field of the certificate. Photographs must still show the color stated on the registration application. Gray-dun Brown (lt, medium, dark) Black (no cross) Black with cross Red (includes sorrel, russet, red roan, "pink") White (includes Ivory (Blue eyed) or Spotted White) Spotted (with above base color) CORRECT COLOR IDENTIFICATION OF REGISTERED ANIMALS IS NECESSARY BOTH FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES AND FOR HONESTY WITH FUTURE BUYERS. If a color is found to have changed from that listed on the registration certificate the registry must be notified. To update the color on a certificate, please send: The ORIGINAL REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE; clear, correct color photos; description of any color changes as well as markings that might have changed or been overlooked in foal coat; mature height if the animal is over 3 years (we have many transfers of mature animals where people overlook this step); and a $4.00 update fee. The color in the photos must clearly show the color described on the application.
