Chinese 1A and 1B: A New Way of Thinking
Home

As some of you know, junior year was supposed to be my year abroad. The year where I would go to China and become fluent in Mandarin. But that's not going to happen next year, because the UC Study Abroad Program canceled the China trip because of SARS. In many ways, I'm glad I'm staying next year at UC Berkeley, because then I get to hang out with my friends and family a little bit more and get to learn more Chinese. Also, perhaps my senior year I can try to go to China again. This past year learning Chinese was difficult and challenging, yet also very rewarding. I learned a lot...how to write over 600 Chinese characters, how to speak Mandarin, and more about my own ethnic culture. Below are some pictures from my Chinese class. To the left is Zhang Laoshi, the coolest Chinese language teacher.

Speech Contest: Some of my classmates and I said speeches in Mandarin. My speech was about dreams.
Zhang Laoshi performed during the entertainment segment, along with other people.
After the contest, Zhang Laoshi treated our class all out to dinner.
Zhang Laoshi's House: Our class was invited to learn how to make dumplings from scratch. Look at the pictures below and learn.
First, create the dough (left). Then, shape the dough (right). Begin making cut dough into thin pancakes (Below).

Meanwhile...

On the other side of the house, others were filling up the pancakes with the stuffing.
