Dominic Cheung

Zhang Cuo/Chang Ts'o or Ao Ao (Dominic Cheung) (Taiwan)
1943-
Born in Hong Kong, Cheung studied English and comparative literature in Taiwan. Since 1967 he has lived in the U.S., earning degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Washington. He is currently
Chairperson of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Southern California. He has published numerous collections of poetry, including Cuowu de shisixing (Erroneous Sonnets, 1981), Shuangyu huan yuan (Double Jade Ring Complaint, 1984) and Drifters (1986), which won Taiwan's National Literature and Arts Prize in 1989. He also is the author of many works of criticism and translations in both Chinese and English, including the important anthology of Taiwan poetry, The Isle Full of Noises (1987).
