| Central News Agency 17 BULLETS FOUND WITH SAME STRUCTURE AS USED IN MARCH 19 SHOOTING 2004-09-10 19:37:14 Taipei, Sept. 10 (CNA) Seventeen bullets have been found that match the characteristics of the one found at the scene of the March 19 shooting of President Chen Shui-bian, the Tainan Prosecutor's Office reported Friday. The Tainan Prosecutor's Office held a news conference Friday to speak on the progress of the investigation in an attempt to dispel rumors that they have not been actively pursuing the case. On August 30, officials from the State Public Prosecutor-General's Office reported that 12 bullets had been found that were identical in structure with the one found in President Chen's jacket the day he was shot. Tainan's presiding prosecutor, Kuo Chen-ni, also said that after the election-eve shooting, investigators followed up on more than 2,000 cases that violated regulations on guns and ammunition. The owners of the 17 bullets are either dead, in detention or on the run. Police are trying to find the fugitives, Kuo said. Kuo did not elaborate on how the bullets match the one used in the shooting. Police are questioning the owner of an underground ammunition factory uncovered in Tainan Thursday, Kuo said. The suspect, Yeh Ho-chiang, 37, is said to be a machine tool expert. (By Lilian Wu) |
