Samurai originaly joined SeeD because the Galbadian government had forbidden the Samurai profession. In order that the skills and warrior spirit of their people should not be lost, the Samurai of the Western continent sent their sons to SeeD as soon as it formed. SeeD welcomed the host of young, strong warriors, and the Samurai soon established their place in SeeD as stalwart warriors that were difficult to take down, and capable of dishing out a variety of powerful elemental attacks.

From the beginning, Cid and Norg forbid dueling between SeeD samurai from rival clans, and despite fears that such duels would continue in secret, the policy seemed to wipe them out entirely. Cooperation became the norm, even among Samurai who's clans had traditionally hated each other. Both the SeeD regulations, and the larger enemy of the nation of Galbadia, focused the Samurai on external foes.

With the civil war on the Western continent, and the advent of the Leauge of Roses, the stream of new Samurai trainees has dried up entirely, leaving older SeeD samurai to ponder the merits and ethics of training non-samurai recriuts in the ways of Bushido. So far, it hasn't happened, but it seems like it may be just a matter of time...
