| Freedom. This is a concept that men have fought about for as long as stronger men found they could oppress other people in order to make their own lives easier. It is something that some would gladly die for, and what they want above all other things. The citizens of the Paramekian Empire are not free. The empire itself is ruled by a psychotic Emperor, hell-bent on conquering the planet and able to summon evil monsters to crush the wage war on his enemies. Those living in the city of Phin did not want to be a part of this horror, and they fought for their freedom against all odds. Their defeat was both quick and painful. Demons and armies alike entered Phin and tore it down. Now, four of Phins youths must flee to Altea. They dont know it yet, but they are soon to embark on an amazing journey, and they are about to bring the world hope. Hope for human life, for future, and most of all freedom. | ||||||||
| While Final Fantasy 2 kept the top-down wandering from the original, Squaresoft were already experimenting with the involved storylines that would transform a simple game of hack n slash exploring into an emotional journey of Star Wars proportions. | ||||||||
| The treat to the world is a lot more fleshed out, and we are introduced to a cast of characters by name. Frionel has the honour of being the first of many teenage Squaresoft heroes, with Marias as his free-spirited love interest and Guy as the bloke with a heart of gold. Marias brother, leonheart, lends his name Final Fantasy 8 as well, giving us the first example of Squaresofts fondness for reusing certain names ideas the gill currency, mythril element, Chocobos and a bloke called Cid also fall into this category. | ||||||||
