web-site)
About
us….
This club is based upon respect….
o
for your fellow
modeler
o
for visitors and
the public
o
for the community
and our neighbors
o
for the
environment
We welcome all
radio-controlled model aircraft and flyers of all skill levels and interests.
There may be restrictions as to the type and size of models, but this will be
based upon the parameters of our field and noise restrictions. We welcome
people with all types of aircraft, ranging from park flyers or department store
“toy” airplanes to helicopters, giant scale, warbirds, and jets; either powered
by internal combustion engines or electric motors.
Free-flight and control-line
flyers are also welcome but may be restricted due to the operating requirements
of their aircraft and the MAAC Safety Code.
The club operates under the
Safety Code and Policies of the Model
Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC), and provides a safe and enjoyable
location to pursue aeromodelling. Our field rules are as follows:
1. MAAC Safety
Code and Policies will apply in all situations.
2. Do not spoil
other people’s fun unless this “fun” violates Rule #1.
3. Have as much
fun as Rules #1 and #2 permit.
Additional policies will be
established by the club’s Executive, such as the design of all flying fields
and locations, hours of operation and dues.
Our Purpose?
As a club, we wish to;
o
provide
a safe, friendly and enjoyable environment for our members and guests to persue
aermodelling..
o
ensure
that the Safety Code and Policies of the
Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC) are met.
o
maintain
friendship and a good working relationship with the owners of our flying
site(s).
o
encourage
fellowship with other clubs and with aeromodellers in general by providing an
appropriate flying site(s).
o
attract
new participants to the hobby by welcoming visitors to our flying activities,
and by offering expert help and flight instruction to our new members.
What is aeromodelling?
Aeromodelling is a
sport/hobby dealing with the construction and flying of what is called model
aircraft. This club is primarily focused on radio-controlled model aircraft,
where the aircraft is controlled from the ground via a radio system.
Dues? The club uses the same membership year as MAAC which
is from January 1 to December 31 of each calendar year. The dues will be set by
the Executive as part of the annual budget process.
Activities? The main reason for this club, like many others, is
to provide a good flying field. In addition, the club will publish its e-zine
“Ridge Lift” with articles of interest to members and the general public. In
addition, meetings will be held to present guest lecturers on various topics or
model aircraft designs and events. Other activities will be arranged to promote
a social aspect to the club. Events such as fun-flys or fly-ins will be held to
encourage skills development or just getting together for a day’s flying.
Corporate-styled meetings and
“politics” will be held to an absolute minimum.
Flying locations? As the club is just being established, we have no
current flying site. If you know of a potential flying site (approximately 5
acres of flat pasture or field with few tall trees in the immediate vicinity
and no horse/cattle operations), please contact the webmaster.
Organization? The club is based upon the absolute minimum: Safety
Officer, Field Manager, Treasurer, Membership and Secretary. Please see our Constitution
and By-Laws for the description of their duties.
Flight Instruction? The club follows the instruction
program as laid out by MAAC, and is called the Wings
Program. The Wings Program is a proven method and is the result of various
clubs’ experiences across the country over the last thirty years or more. Instruction is offered free of charge to all
members of the club.
Just want to drop by and watch us? Visitors are always welcome. Please obey all signs,
especially those that say “Pilots only beyond this point”. They are there for
your safety and protection.
If you wish to ask questions
of a flyer, please do so after they have landed and pitted their aircraft. Get
their attention and they will come over to talk with you. If you wish to
examine their airplane, they will be more than welcome to and will escort you
into the pits. Please keep an eye out for anyone starting their engines or
taxiing their aircraft out to the flight line.
Unfortunately, visitors are
not allowed out to the flight line unless escorted by an instructor for their
introductory flight.
When finished, please return
to behind the safety signs.
Not sure if aeromodelling is for you? You are welcome to attend all club meetings and to
drop in at our flying site(s). The club
does offer an introductory flight with an instructor. This is currently limited
to a single flight (one tank of fuel, approximately ten to fifteen minutes.) In
order to fly with the club after this point, you must join MAAC and the club.
Got a park flyer or department store
airplane? We will assist you to familiarize yourself
with the aircraft and how to safely and properly operate it. We’ll test fly it
and then give you an introductory flight on one of our trainers or assist you
in your first flight under an instructor. However, after that, you will be
asked to join MAAC and the club in order to fly at our field.
