| Fun Things to do With Your MOPPET
Go to Oak Mountain and walk their trails and see their animal rescue center--one of our all time favorites! Also, go to Aldridge Gardens off of Lorna Road and look at all the beautiful flowers--and walk their trails too!! We enjoy the outdoors--and Oak Mountain and Aldridge Gardens have a lot of shade for those really hot days!! Megan Pickering Pine Cone Birdfeeder: Collect pine cones, use spoon to cover with peanut butter, then roll in bird seed. Hang outside and enjoy watching birds have a snack! Jennifer Warren Little Artists: Buy inexpensive acrylic paint (that doesnt wash out well). Let your children paint beautiful pictures. I use an egg carton to hold paint. My children also like painting sticks, paper towel rolls, rocks or even stepping stones! We display our art outside on the porch on a rope with clothes hangers. The kids enjoy gazing at their art during lunch. Jennifer Warren Glitter hands: We love to see how much the kids hands have grown. One way to watch them grow is with glitter hands. Take any color construction paper, glue and any color glitter. Cover the kids hands with glue, (yes it is messy!) then put hands down on paper like paint. Sprinkle glitter over the glue. Use glue to write their name and create designs around the edges. It is so beautiful. (It is also a fun way to make an ornament: Just use a small piece of paper and put a string through it and hang it from your tree.) Jennifer Warren My family did scavenger hunts every once in a while when I was a kid. They were so much fun. We would have a list of things to take a picture of or video tape. The rule was everyone in your group had to be in the picture with your team "flag". An example of some of the things that were on our lists... Everyone in your team hanging upside down on the monkey bars Knock on a neighbor's door and sing them a song (video tape) Picture of someone on your team kissing a pig (my team kissed a cop) You got extra points for creativity.. Jamie Gill Go pick fresh fruit. Lucas and I went and picked strawberries together and had a great time. Other examples are peaches, blueberries and apples. Go to State Park, in our case Oak Mountain. They have hiking, playgrounds, a beach, farm with a petting zoo, fishing, canoeing, etc... All day fun. Camping Make cookies together and pass them out to the neighborhood friends, or take them to a local nursing home and pass them out to the elderly. Brandi Mast Morgan Creek Vineyard in Harpersville also has a U-Pick Blueberry Farm. The season starts June 15 and is from 10:00 - 6:00. It used to be $5 a bucket. A picnic would be fun! There is also Smith's Strawberry U Pick Farm is Westover Kelly Rasco Debby Howell-Moroney offered her Girl Scout Troop Resource Guide to share with us.
