The Mop & Bucket Co. was founded in 1947 by Cornelius "Connie"
Mopp and Edmond "Teddy" Buketski, two old vaudevillians who refused
to accept the inevitability of television and Won- der Bread. Throughout the
'50's the two barnstormed small towns , performing their act, which unfortunately
evolved into a tedious sidewalk demonstration of various cleaning products,
trinkets and gadgets. In ' 51, Mopp & Buketski performed outside the gates
of the General Electric plant on Erie Blvd. in Schenectady. Older Schenectady
residents still fondly recall employment, a thriving city, and cars made of
steel. And that goes for Troy, too. After the highly publicized and tragic breakup
of the duo over the "dead lizard incident", the company lay dormant for many years,
until Michael Burns found a set of Mopp & Buketski' s old set lists, some news clippings,
and a faded but serviceable revolver in an old trunk. The experience changed Burns somehow.
No one is sure exactly how. Mopp & Buketski are now gone, but most of the current
cast members use soap on a regular basis, in their memory. As we like to say,
Mopp & Buketski changed our lives. Are you?
