Welcome to my website!!
My name is Andrew and I was born in 1979 and was raised in Covington, Georgia, which is located about 35 miles southeast of Atlanta. Covington has been referred to by many as the "Hollywood South", due to the fact that many movies and television movies/series have been fully or partially filmed in or around town. As a result of my upbringing around a small entertainment mecca, I love movies and television and have an ever-growing knowledge of information related to these subjects.
Covington is also featured as one of the picks in a book titled The 50 Best Small Southern Towns, published in 2001 and written by Gerald W. Sweitzer and Kathy M. Fields. In addition, Covington was named a "City of Excellence" by the State of Georgia in early 2003. If you would like to know more about historic downtown Covington and the surrounding area, check out the book or visit this website. If you are new to the area and need information on local services, click here. Finally, the local newspaper, The Covington News, is online here.
Community Events and the Arts in Covington
Since 1984, Covington has been proud to host an annual arts series (from September-May) featuring performances from world-renowned artists. Past performances that I have attended have included the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Brass, the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers, the New Shanghai Circus, the Ahn Trio, the New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the Irish-Celtic band Altan, the Boys Choir of Harlem, the King's Singers of England, as well as famous pianists, including the late Rudolph Firkusny of the former Czechoslovakia, Ellis Marsalis of New Orleans, Mac Frampton of Atlanta, and Hiroko Nakamura of Japan. There have also been concerts in honor of the late Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Harry Chapin and George Gershwin.
The Arts Association in Newton County also features an active slate of programs for children, including a children's choir (4th-7th graders), a youth choir (8th-12th graders), a regional ballet, a summer camp for elementary age children, voice lessons and a scholarship program for kids who wish to pursue a career in music. For more information about the Arts Association, click here.
