History
The Vandals are close to the definitive SoCal punk rock band. Throughout the 80's and early 90's, they played the hardcore scene with nary an ounce of record label support. After a while, Epitaph took notice. Besides Epitaph, the Vandals have released albums on Triple X, Nitro and their own Kung Fu label. Longevity has its drawbacks: for being around as long as they have been, the Vandals have been surprisingly stable. Though over ten people have been in and out the Vandals' door, vocalist Dave Quackenbush, guitarist Warren Fitzgerald, bassist Joe Escalante and drummer Josh Freese have fused themselves into a unit. The only problem is Josh's day job - he's a professional drummer, and often heads out on the road with other bands (Guns n' Roses, A Perfect Circle, DEVO). Thus, the Vandals have a slew of live show fill-ins. The Vandals look beyond the world of music. Currently, the band has a television series in production called Fear of a Punk Planet, about four punkers who run a non-profit club and Schwing!, a magazine for punk rockers who love golf. The Vandals have appeared in The X-Files (creator Chris Carter is a big punk rock fan), and movies Suburbia and Dudes. Though their lyrics are often humorous, the Vandals still take themselves seriously. To wit: "Punk rock can get heavy handed and young people should probably have a little fun before becoming depressed by world crises."

Another great punk band featured on my site ;) I first heard 'em on The Lock Up and they were great. Man there is so many punk bands I've missed out on. I just hear them when they are bringing out their like 10th album, wot a rip off! Anyway, go out any get a Vandals album if not for the sheer punk amazingness it's worth it for the comedy value.
