A Three Hour Tour...
Pontoon boat is off the mooring, looking back at the house, my trustly silky terriers Tommy and Kevin by my side...
Once off the mooring, this is the view looking due south around 2:00pm.
Hugging the shoreline, and heading north past owls point, around the northern reaches of NorthEast cove over to the opposite side of the cove, home to the Rice's rental homes, the doggies and I start to head south into the open waters.
Looking back to the north into the cove, I have managed to get myself into some very choppy waters with heavy winds coming out of the west.
No Problem!  My trusty 25hp four stroke merc can power through these rough waves no problem!
Before I started coming up to Great Moose Lake, I had never seen a bald eagle in the wild, but here on the lake they're actually quite a common sight.  On one weekend in January, I saw 14 of them in a feeding frenzy on the ice.
This is one of the many islands that dot Great Moose Lake's landscape.  This one in particular has a story behind it.  One winter I was visiting the house and was snowmobiling back from the store in the evening.  Unfortunately, with my buddy Steve following me, I came upon this island and did not recognize it, thus realizing the horror that every snowmobiler goes through once... being lost at night on a lake that has open spots.  We did eventually get out of this conundrum, but because of that adventure, this will forever be known to me as "exile island" in honor of the hour or so Steve and I spent there.
Had to throw in a picture of the Silky Terriers.  That's kevin in the foreground and Tommy in the background.  Very curious doggies, thus they stand at the ready for virtually every loon that comes anywhere near us!
you never know who you're going to run into out on the lake.  Here's Gary and BJ (my neighbors) out on the lake having a wine and cheese and chocolate party!
Home sweet home... after about three hours out on the lake it was time to pull into the mooring and hand the keys over to the Horrocks, thanks for letting me use the house for a day!
