The Rosette Nebula
The rosette nebula is a vast cloud of interstallar dust and star forming matter about 1 degree across riding high in the winter sky.  The rosette is an active star forming region, with the star cluster NGC2377 at its core.  This photograph differs from those taken of this object with film because the 20d does not have the sensitivity to Hydrogen-alpha (the red region) as certain types of film I've used in the past.  While this object is not directly viewable with telescopes, I always find this object by looking for the six stars which make up NGC2377 and form a ladder, three to a side.  For more information on the rosette nebula, click here.
