Great Moose Lake Info
Great Moose Lake is a 3500 square acre lake at the head of the Sebasticook river watershed.  In recent years, this watershed has come under increasing concern due to the rise in phosphates, the primary byproduct of organic pollutants.  This increase has led to some of the lakes in this watershed to suffer a decreased clarity during August due to excessive algae growth, known as an Algae bloom.  Fortunately, this has not happened to Great Moose Lake primarily because it is a relatively undeveloped lake and being at the head of the Sebasticook river watershed, the pollutants gathered are mostly downstream.  So if you're looking for nice clean water to frolic in for your vacation, Great Moose Lake would be perfect.  It is managed as a mixed cold/warm water fishery as it has a couple of deep holes for cold water species to thrive in, but for the most part, the water during the summer is quite balmy

If you would like more information on Great Moose Lake's water quality and its water quality monitoring program, simply
click here and enter "Great Moose Lake" and hit "Find Lakes", I don't seem to be able to link directly to the reports and I'm sure copying them to this web page would probably be some breach of law.
