The Gamma Cygnus complex can be seen under clear dark skies with the naked eye. It will appear as just a bit of a cloudy patch right next to Gamma Cygnus. Gamma Cygnus is the crux star in the cygnus (northern cross) constellation. The nebula to the right of Gamma Cyg in this photo is sometimes referred to as the butterfly nebula. The Nebula appears to be bisected by a dust lane of dark intersteller matter.
This photo is a single 90 minute exposure of the Gamma Cygnus complex using hypersensitized kodak Tech Pan film along with a Lumicon Hydrogen Alpha filter.
Technical Data Scope: 400mm lens & OM-1 camera Guiding: ST4 Film: Supra 400 for RGB and hypered tech pan for luminance Composition: One 90 minute exposure on Hypered Tech Pan, adjusted for contrast and brightness in PS. |
