Our fathers fought for freedom
from the tyrants of our land,
And their spirit helped up right on
through the years.
Yet the brotherhood which stirred us
and helped us clear a path
Has somehow, very quickly, disappeared.
Though the Civil War was fought
to keep our country safe
For to keep the land together in
one piece
Our nation now again is torn, one
race against the next.
And once again we're fighting for
our peace.
Look up, look out, across
the land
And see New York rise high.
See it stretching long, lean
fingers
Upwards towards the sky.
Why are waving yellow buttercups
dandelions at closer look?
Why is a three year best seller novel
really a lousy book?
Why is the sun only fire and flames
instead of a red rubber ball?
And I'm told that my big yellow harvest moon
isn't really cream cheese at all.
If we'd all keep believing in children's
dreams
We could live in a better place.
And the people in it would be better
people -
Everyone - every creed - every
race.
The years I spent in loving
you
Were counted as but
days.
The floods of tears I cried
for you
Could hardly fill a
vase
And yet I've kept on
loving you
As days melt into
months
And still I'll keep on
loving you
Till the moon turns to
the sun.
