Here's Why We Ask You To
Seriously Consider the Joint Management Pilot Program

The talents of all our members, men and women, are needed to best operate our Moose facilities.

By the Joint Management Strategic Team

The majority of Moose members who have participated in numerous focus groups over the last several years believe that it's necessary for the positive advancement of our fraternity to have men and women working together in all facets of our program. Those focus groups have consistently indicated that the talents and abilities of all individuals, regardless of gender, are necessary for the financial health and membership growth of our Moose facilities.
Simply speaking, the old way of doing business is not working, and is out of step with today's world. The answer is Joint Management of Moose centers.
The term "Joint Management" is one you may already have heard, especially if you're active in your Lodge, Chapter, or Moose Association leadership. But what does it really mean? The concept was first introduced at the 2001 International Convention in Las Vegas, and has since been repeatedly promoted, in Association meetings, on www.mooseintl.org, and elsewhere. But many members are unaware of the concept, or misunderstand it. Joint Management simply provides for replacement of the current all-male House Committee by a team of both men and women members to form the Board of Directors of a Moose facility, a Moose Family Center or a Moose Activity Center (the latter name being suggested for Lodge facilities which haven't been certified as Family Centers).
Under Joint Management, this joint male - female Board of Directors is responsible for the entire business operation of the Moose facility, including the Social Quarters, the upkeep / maintenance of the building, receipt of non-fraternal business funds, payment of bills, etc. For the Moose business operation to be financially healthy, the joint Board of Directors should have an active and full calendar of events and functions each month.

Would the Lodge Board of Officers still exist?
Absolutely, but it would no longer be burdened with "House Committee" responsibilities. The Lodge (and its Chapter of the Women of the Moose) would continue to conduct separate fraternal meetings of each unit's Board of Officers, and of the respective memberships of the Lodge and Chapter. The Lodge, the men's fraternal unit, would operate essentially in the same manner as Chapters have traditionally operated.

What is the benefit to the Lodge and Chapter?
The charitable / fraternal aspects of our Order are what drew many of today's members to join. But the fraternal side has always been burdened with the responsibility of managing the business matter of the Moose facility in order to pay the bills. Under Joint Management, the two fraternal Boards of Officers are able to focus solely on the fraternal aspect of the Lodge and Chapter, thus allowing emphasis on planning and conduction programs benefiting Mooseheart, Moosehaven and their communities. The Moose Facility's joint Board of Directors would then be able to draw on the talents and time of all members (from Lodge and Chapter) in handling the business aspects of the Moose Family Center or Moose Activity Center.

The opportunity for personal fraternal honors and degrees would remain for those desiring to take active leadership in their Lodge (for men) or Chapter (for women). Several Moose operations currently participating in the Joint Management Pilot Program have reported that they have increased revenues, and decreased deficits!
Joint Management empowers the fraternal units, the Lodge and Chapter, to concentrate on what they have always done best: take care of our Mooseheart children and Moosehaven seniors, do charitable good works for members, and perform Moose Community Service. These are, and will always remain, the fundamental principles of this proud fraternal organization.
We urge you to seriously explore the many benefits of men and women truly working together on an equal basis for the business success of the Moose facility. By joining the growing numbers of Lodges and Chapters currently participating in the Joint Management program, you will enhance your image in the community, increase the potential success of your Moose operation, and ensure the continued longevity of the Moose fraternity as a force for good.
Because it is felt necessary for our future, and the right thing to do, Joint Management of all Moose operations will soon be more than a concept. Today is the right time for your Moose operation to consider Joint Management. If someone says it isn't, you might ask, "Why not?" The nation in which we do business have been under joint male and female management for decades. Isn't it time for the Moose organization to do the same?
