Moose's All Inclusive Guide To Voice Acting Forums

(This is not meant to bash or flame any voice acting forums, just meant as a guide for people looking into other voice acting forums. I also had no permission to do this what-so-ever. I'm also a member of all these forums)

Well, you want to voice act or produce, but don't want to be glued to one forum? Want some more information on other forums? Then you've come to the right place. This is an all inclusive guide to voice acting forums for producers and voice actors. In all fairness, all voice acting experience is good experience, but I'm helping those who want to post auditions or prefer certain roles over others. This will also give personal info on the forums, half opinion, half fact.

Newgrounds Voice Acting Club

This one is where a lot of voice actors start, but eventually move up. A lot of voice acting jobs, and a lot of voice actors. So far, I have only seen Flash roles available, and that's what there will be there because it is on a Flash-based site. This is a great place for voice actors to start, because a lot of people find it out of sheer curiosity or a forum search, as opposed to really looking for a site. A lot of voice actors, including myself, started their. There are two big cons about this place. It is unorganized and it is easy to spam. It has had trouble before with people spamming up the place. It is also hard to keep track of all the auditions and voice actors. My favorite part about this personally is the fact that you can see the producers previous flash work, and batting average (an average score of all the Flash-makers work). That way, you can see how the voice actors animate, and it's easier to stay away from un-legit Flash producers, who hold fake auditions.

Overall: Good place to start, and a good place to find voice actors, but if you are really serious, then you should move to a different forum

Voice Acting Alliance

My Voice Acting Forum of choice as of now. It is the absolute largest voice acting forum out there as of now. The forum is very organized, and has at least one new audition thread a day. It also has many tutorials for voice actors and non-flash producers. It is not the best place for Flash producers, seeing as it tends to ignore flash more than fandubs and radioplays, but if you are a voice actor, I highly recommend going here. Just make sure you follow the rules and whatnot, the moderating is very strict due to it's large size. Another good thing about the VAA is that there are more experienced people there that can critique your work, which is a great thing. There is also a lot of voice acting discussion, to help inform people about voice acting issues they never knew about.

Cons:

Voice Acting Club

This is basically the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club, only much more organized. It has a list of all the voice actors, with demos and all. It is the second largest recorded voice acting forum as of now. It is mainly for flash, but still holds auditions for radioplays and fandubs, but since most of the Voice Acting Club members came straight from the Newgrounds Voice Acting Club, there is a good chance that the less experienced members are somewhat oblivious to fandubs or radioplays (I know I was). They usually also are limited in their constructive criticism, seeing as they probably think everything is good because they have not yet been involved in a wide range of work. However, these newer members usually don't discriminate against join date, because they are so eager to work. The VAC has a few tutorials, but not as many as the VAA. This is a great resource for Flash producers because it includes a "Producers Area" which has many discussions about flash related topics. I can also say this with confidence, the VAC is much more laid back then the VAA. There is even a section in it called Boredom and Randomness, where there is basically just nonsense posting, which is, in many cases, led by one of the Moderators of that forum, Yaminomalex. It is a great resource, full of fun and interesting people, and I highly suggest joining.

Cons:

FLAVA (currently under construction)

This used to be the main voice acting forum out their, until it shut down due to website problems. All of those voice actors moved to the VAA and ended up not paying too much attention to FLAVA once it was back up. It is an ok resource, but it almost never updates itself, and is very hard to recruit people. I'm not going to suggest it to producers. However, since it was a big forum long ago, it has some great tutorials that neither the VAA or the VAC have. It is a great place to go just for that purpose, and that is the main reason I joined.

Pros:

Cons:

Those are all the main ones. Remember, this isn't a competition, but rather a comparison and guide. A great rule to follow for producers who want to get lot's of voice actors is to become active in the forum, instead of just registering, holding auditions, and then leaving. That sends a bad impression to the voice actors that you don't care about the voice actors, however, when you post in the forum, people will see you more. I also suggest putting a link to your audition in your signature, that way, you can easily and effectively advertise. I suggest that voice actors do what I have and join all of the forums, and suggest that all producers post in all of these forums. That way, you get the best from all of them. I wish you good luck on your voice acting or producing, and hope to see you active on these forums.
