| One of my sons is a musician. | |||
| When Larry was a boy of about eleven, he asked me for a five string banjo, so I bought one and hired a teacher for him. He learned the tabulature notation and finger picking quickly, and his teacher told me that he was the best student that he had ever had. What fun it was to accompany him with my guitar. As Larry became a teenager, he traded for an electric bass and started his rocking years, practicing in garages, getting a band together for summer camps and for shows at school. After high school, he rented an acoustic bass, took lessons, learned to read music and, surprisingly, got a full scholarship through six years of college for playing in their orchestra. While there, he also played with the college jazz program and got his feet wet there. He is now head of the music department at a private school, K-12, and plays professionally in an orchestra and in jazz ensembles. He has always worked hard at music, because he loved it. He still works hard and has developed several award winning students and orchestras. |
