| ORIGIN |
South Africa from Cape Province to the Transvaal and
Swaziland |
| BLOOMING SEASON |
Late fall and into the winter |
| LIGHT |
Low 1800 to 2000 fc |
| TEMPERATURE |
Warm to hot with winter lows of 18 degrees (65 degrees
F) and summer highs 45 degrees C (95 degrees F). This plant likes it
very hot. |
| HUMIDITY |
Likes it high 75% and up |
| WATER |
Water well all year around |
| GROWING MEDIA |
Any well draining moisture retaining media such as the
following: 6 parts seedling bark, 1 part perlite, 1 part charcoal, 1
part chopped sphagnum moss or coarse peat. |
| FERTILIZER |
Feed weekly, throughout the year, a weak growth mix
(1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon fertilizer per gallon water). In September you
may want to alternate each week with a blossom booster mix in the
same concentration as the growth mix. |
| POTS |
Plastic pots are best but make sure that they are not
too large for this plant. The plant remains small. |
| NOTES |
At times Santa Barbara Orchid Estate has this plant.
Oak Hill Gardens has Polystachy Iongiscape, which has similar growth
requirements, but I do not think the flowers are as great and the
flower spike is 3 feet or more long. |
