| GROWTH HABITS |
Sympodial epiphyte |
| ORIGIN |
Brazil |
| BLOOMING SEASON |
Late spring to early summer |
| LIGHT |
Low 800 to 1200 fc |
| TEMPERATURE |
Warm with winter lows of 12 degrees to 15 degrees C
(54 degrees to 60 degrees F) and summer highs of 33 degrees C (91
degrees F) or a little above. |
| HUMIDITY |
Will grow at 50% humidity but will do better at 80 to
85% |
| WATER |
Once the new growth is seen keep the plant constantly
moist, once the new growth has matured cut back on the water
allowing the plant to just about get dry between watering. |
| GROWING MEDIA |
Any potting mix that drains well yet holds moisture
well will do. A good mix is 6 parts seedling bark, 1 part
perlite, 1 part charcoal and 1 part coarse peat or chopped sphagnum
moss. |
| FERTILIZER |
When new growth is seen feed weak weekly a high
nitrogen growth formula (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per gallon water of a
urea free mix). Change to a blossom booster formula in late summer
till the growth is mature and water is decreased then give only
water. Feed at the same ratio as stated above. |
| POTS |
Use plastic pots, to maintain moisture, of the correct
size for the plant. |
| NOTES |
The flowers are 2 to 3 inches in size and are
fragrant. The plant is available from Oak Hill Gardens under
the syn. name of Colax jugosus. |
