| GROWTH HABITS |
Very small monopodial epiphyte |
| ORIGIN |
Madagascar |
| BLOOMING SEASON |
Late summer and early fall |
| LIGHT |
Low 1200 fc to 2000 fc |
| TEMPERATURE |
Winter lows 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) and day
temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees C (69 to 68 degrees F) and summer
highs and lows of 27 degrees C (80 degrees F) |
| HUMIDITY |
In the summer the plant the humidity in the 70% to 80%
range and winter levels of 60% to 65% range. |
| WATER |
From late spring to fall the plant should be kept damp
at all times but in the fall water should be cut back and the plant
needs to get dry for short periods between watering. You may also
mist the top of the potting mix daily instead of watering but do not
let the plant get so dry that the leaves begin to shrivel if this is
noticed increase water to the plant. The plant needs this rest
period to flower and grow well. |
| GROWING MEDIA |
Any good well draining mix such as the following, 6
parts medium bark 1 part perlite adn 1 part charcoal. The plants
will also do well in baskets or mounted on cork bark or tree fern
slabs. The flowers will show better on mounted plants but water
becomes a problem and mounts should probably be soaked in a bucket
of water for 20 minutes three times a week. |
| FERTILIZER |
Feed weak weekly (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per gallon
water) a balanced fertilizer such as a 20-20-20 mix during the
growing period. |
| POTS |
Either clay or plastic pots with extra drainage
material in the bottom. Small 3-5 inch baskets or cork and tree fern
slabs work well. |
| NOTES |
Plants are small but the flowers bloom 1 to 3 per
spike and fragrant. The flowers are up to 1.6 inches across
and have a spur. At this time I do not know who has the plants for
sale but the plant is in the county. |
