| And All Hell Broke Loose Oh that mischievous Puck. He runs 'round Moonsong causing as much trouble as he can possibly get into- but one of his more famous catastrophes was when he let the demons loose. It was probably the one time that even he himself thought "oh no, what have I done." A few months of research and casual questions to the elves about their magic, and he had a spell- and the Portal. He thought it would be funny- sort of an all-hallow's-eve trick- to let a demon or the dead roam Moonsong in the midst of the night. He had not, however, planned on how to get them back where they came from. He whispered incantations in front of the Portal. The swirling blue and lavender light became somewhat murky- dark midnight blues, blacks, deep burgundy reds. And the light swirled much more slowly, churning. And then it began to pulse. It pulsed with the rhythm of the incantation, out, in, out, in. The light seemed to become a barrier- something from inside the Portal tried to push outward. Individual handprints could be seen clawing at the light. A burst of hot air whooshed from the portal. Small flames began to lick out from the sides. Puck began to get nervous. His reading faltered, and then stopped. But the pulses continued. Another blast of heat came flowing from the Portal. Puck ran. A deafening explosion rocked the forest, a huge fireball lit up the night sky, and a dozen spirits, demons, and hellish beings fled cackling into the night. IMPlications Picture the most obnoxious child you have ever had to deal with. Shrink that kid by a foot or two, change some of the physical qualities and you've basically got yourself a demonic imp. They're about two or three feet tall, way too energetic, talk/chatter/hiss/make noise incessantly, and get into as much trouble as they can. A pair of imps that got loose are rumored to have been the real cause of the New York blackout in 1965. As well as a number of smaller blackouts. And forest fires. And basically anything that is a major annoyance. The imps are small, sure, but they are sharp as tacks. And they speak in a combination of the Common tongue and Demonic. They have minor control over fear energy- they can fling a shadowy bolt at someone and that person will briefly and vividly experience their worst fear. They also have the ability to blend in with shadows- making them sometimes difficult to find. As a general species, the imps are small, scrawny, and kind of gross. They have skin like humans, but it is incredibly dry and flaky. They have shadowy eyes ((very poor vision)), huge bat ears and hugely disproportional hands and feet. In the underworld, Imps were at the bottom of the food chain. They didn't really serve a purpose other than periodically fearing individuals out of boredom for entertainment, and were generally just an annoyance. Its no wonder the three that escaped would not be missed. IMPact When the three imps got loose out of the Portal, they chattered and hopped their way through the forest as fast as their huge feet could carry them. Two males and a female, they didn't really have names, and so distinguished one from the other by distinct physical characteristics- Torn Ear, High Hops and Snub Nose. Snub Nose was the first to be choked by the invisible cord. She was glorked backwards, and began to screech angrily. Of course she took her aggression out on the individual nearest to her- Torn Ear, who had been a few ahead. High Hops fell to the ground cackling at the other two as they struggled to scuffle with chains keeping them barely within arms reach- but close enough for Snub Nose to get some good scratches and kicks in. IMPerfect Of course the Imps thought it was a riot that Puck had bitten off more than he could chew, so to speak. They also found it endlessly entertaining that though he had called them, he was pretty much terrified of them. They looked up to his malicious and mischievous behavior, and vowed their allegiance to assisting him in his future shenanigans. Puck, of course, was annoyed with their persistence after an hour or so of their constant jeering, chattering and bickering amongst one another. Verilee laughingly said it was his penance for bring Hell upon Moonsong. He gritted his teeth and stalked away, and of course the three imps followed.Torn Ear, High Hops and Snub Nose Torn Ear and High Hops are the males of the imps. Torn Ear obviously has a tear in one of his ears, the result of a scrap with Snub Nose, most likely. He is rough and tough and covered in scars from many confrontations. He tends to get underfoot quite a lot, and does not tolerate harsh words or negative comments.High Hops is named for his ability to jump higher than any other imp. He would win every hopping competition in the Underworld- as long as it was judged on height of the hop and not distance. Hes not much for stamina, he gets winded easily. High Hops is the laziest of the imps. Snub Nose has a short piggy nose and small beady eyes. She and Torn Ear are alike in that they are quick to jump into physical confrontations. Snub Nose is one tough cookie. However, she is more likely to plan her attack than act out of the heat of the moment.
