While You Were Sleeping by Moonshadow

A prayer for the dying.

While you were sleeping, I touched your face,
Kissed your hair, and watched for a sign,
To tell me you'd be waking soon.

I heard a whisper upon the wind,
It called to me - with your voice,
And told me I could join you soon.

I remembered that night you held my hand,
And murmured to me, "Promise me this;
Live, for me. Live. Just live."

Morning came, as you slept by my side;
I watched the sunrise - alone, this time.
You can sleep forever if you wish,
Just as long as you keep me in your dreams.
