THE STORY OF LAND

Many, many years ago, two holy brothers of the land

went deep into the woods to foreseelife

to hunt

to remember stories

to be with the land

 Nightfall came

stars twinkled songs for cool rivers

smoky trails hung heave on the fir trees

to listen

to the story of hte land

told by the older brother

His long braids tuching the ground

his voice being the drum

the night owl responding, "more. tell me more

 Young brother stood up

his fingers touching the limbs of the willows

his voice was the flute

 Deep into the night

they remember

the cold summer night spoke

its voice the wind

On this land will be children

who will spreadseedlings of life

on this land there will br hunters

who nurture this life with the large animals

on this land there will be hole peopl

who will take care of the people

on this land will be destruction and death

and it will hold hands

on this land

with laughter and life

this land , you must understand clearly, isto be taken care of

it is for the children

it it forever"

Their voices faded away with the river

life began

spirit came to life

this is how it is

many, many years ago today.

Apache Wedding Prayer

Now you will feel no rain,

For each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now you will feel no cold,

For each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now there is no more loneliness,

For each of you will be companion to the other.

Now you are two bodies,

But there is only one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place

To enter into the days of your togetherness

And may your days be good and long upon the earth.
