subject: Menohair leaving
Hi there
guys!
My apologies for a slow response.
I first want to take a moment to
congratulate Jon on his new job. He's been
pretty nervous waiting to see if they'd pick him
or not (it has been pretty fun to watch him be a
nervous wreck though!) Coincidentally I just
found out I got a fulltime position at the
company I work for, and no longer am a temp.
Well, I guess I am the interm guild
master. To be honest; I am flattered, but
realistically I have no plan to be a guild
master for long. My goal is to present this
guild with some options and not leave you all
hanging high and dry. I also accept this
position knowing that some my friends in this
guild may not like me when I am done. My
apologies in advance.
And much unlike my
predecessors, I cannot paint the most rosy
disposition where our guild is concerned. We're
barely filling raids, and when we do, it is not
with the correct classes due to shortage of them
online. Despite some of our long-term members
who are raid prepared, not everyone is raid
prepared, have their raid face on, and
considering our situation we don't have a high
morale. And with the break coming, this
situation will not get any better. We're going
to hit the "summer blues" season, where less
people will be on, and this guild cannot weather
it in my opinion. Our friendship is only going
to glue this guild together for so long.
As I mentioned before, I am presenting
some options to you all since I do not want to
"throw the baby out with the bathwater". It has
been discussed for awhile, but ultimately it is
your fate, and you should have a say in what
happens. First you have to decide if you want to
be a just a social guild, or a casual-raiding.
If you just want to be social, then we have no
problem here. If you want to raid; then we have
to look at getting a substantial influx of GOOD
members.
1) My suggestion to the officer
core was a guild merger. Outside any "guild of
the noob", most guilds did not offer open
invites. Your average response from more
prominent guilds that I asked was, "We can take
X amount of DPS provided that healers and tanks
come with" There is one guild that offers the
most hope, that I have seen, of taking many of
our members and I am going to go back and
negotiate some more if we go this route. Ideally
I'd like to keep as much of us together as
possible.
2) Another thing some of the
guilds I looked into wanted was a "list" of
members that wanted to go there. So basically if
we couldn't have open invites, we'd have to
spread out and divide to other guilds that had
similar standards as ours. I have some options
that I will post shortly, but that doesn't
necessarily mean you'll want to go there. Maybe
you have a guild you know of you want to join?
What if you want to be a free agent? Etc.
3) Remain Battalion, and assimilate
several new members. This guild needs GOOD new
blood, in the member core AND in the officer
core. I need a Gm that wants to sincerely be
one, and so far no one has stepped up. We need
leadership that is not burnt out, and has the
time to be an officer (so far I think only 2 or
3 of your current officers meet those
standards.)
However, whatever the case;
I will pass my position to someone else as a
Guild Master. I've seen what being a GM does to
people, and I happen to be fond of my mix of
perkiness and semicomatoseness.
You have all been an online family
to me, and I have been with most of you for
almost two years. From a noob 35 shaman in the
Twilight Guard, to a leveling priest in
Pantheon, to the priest class lead of Battalion,
I have followed the same guild path as many of
you and seen a lot of the same changes you have
seen. Some of you I have been an online family
member with for nearly two years if you can
believe that. You all know me, and I genuinely
care about you guys. I don't want to see this
guild continue to waste away at the expense of
the good members. You really are a bunch of
excellent people, many I know on a first name
basis. It has been a pleasure and a priviledge
to get to hang out with you.
However, I
have accepted a position in another guild, but
before I leave I will try to help you out as
best as I can to find a home for as many of you
as possible. If I thought for a moment that this
guild had a good chance of staying afloat; I'd
back out of my commitment. But as I hear and
read of several of our guildees apping to other
guilds, I think it is time we should look at our
futures in the game.
So please answer my
poll and respond to this post with what your
feelings are about this. I don't have a lot of
time, so if it takes too long; I may be forced
to make a decision for you.
I wanted to
share some of my personal thoughts with everyone
that I previously have only shared with
Heather...
I don't think this guild can
survive. For various reasons, our officers are
largely absent. Our morale is all but
non-existant. Between so few people being online
at any given time, raids getting cancelled, and
raids being executed only quasi-well when they
do happen, I am not getting anything out of the
game at all on Matry anymore.
With that
said, I wanted to post here -- in advance, so
there are no surprises -- that even if an
attempt is made to revive Battalion, I will be
leaving. I'm not yet sure to where, but my
intention is to remain here just a little
longer, to help in whatever way I can while
everyone faces this difficult decision. My
devotion to my guilds is deep and, if possible,
I would rather not leave until I know each and
every one of you has been looked after and
settled somewhere.
I also want to
express something that I have said in the past,
but long enough ago that I feel the need to say
it again. I do not limit what I call "my guild"
by what tag a player wears under their name. I'm
hoping, no matter where we all may end up, that
many of you will still consider me to be
"guild", as I will still think of
you.
I've been
with you guys for only a short time, maybe 3
monthes, but have had more fun than the entire
time I raided on my previous server. I've grown
to be friends with many of you.
Unfortunately, I agree with Heather and
Amy, this guild's future has a slim chance of
truly surviving.
Heather asked if we're
looking for just a social guild (one Battalion
unforunately seems to be turning into) or a
raiding guild. I do love you guys but, in all
honesty, going fully prepared to a raid to have
many members not show up and those that fill in
for them not be prepared makes it pointless. I
dont enjoy spending 8g+ per raid for zero
success (don't get me wrong, we all want loot,
but if we cant even clear up to a boss we've
downed before, something is wrong).
So,
I too plan to move to another guild. Hopefully I
can stay close to some of you that I've become
friends with....Frisky Dingo MUST live on! Hehe
I've
investigated several guilds and to summarize
them in a nutshell; they can take 10-15 people,
but if they don't have a lot of healers go with;
things might get difficult for them. So remember
they have their own guilds to run, and they'll
accept what they can, but not at the expense of
their guild. A couple of them wish to have a
list of members who are going be provided.
Peons No More
Peons No More is
filled with many easterners, so raids usually
are around 5-10 server. They have one nostalgic
raid a week, and 2-3 raids a week for
progression. Of those raids for progression, 1
is closed to signups, 2 are open to signups. No
minimum raid attendance required. Oddly enough,
the guild master expressed no need for healers
as much as they did rogues and hunters. They
would go to 2 Karazhan IDs immediately if a
large influx came in, and they could accept as
much as 20 if all were not DPS. They would
prefer to elect someone as a officer to
represent the Battalion crew till things settle
down.
Secret Service
A guild
similar to Battalion in spirit, this guild is
assistant GMed by a good friend of our's Zimal.
She will accept as many Battalion members as she
can, but she did express a need for healers
should a large amount of people come. They
generaly try to do 2-3 Kara a week starting
around 7 server usually, and instance whenever
they can. They are starting to do heroics.
Zimmy wanted me to express to you guys
how much she'd be looking forward to teaming
with you all again ^_^.
Sin
A unique guild in the sense that you
cannot apply; it is entirely through being
recommended by a guildee. This guild is about in
the same place in Karazhan where Battalion left
off (past Curator.) They raid 3-4 times a week,
but there is no manditory attendance
requirement. They don't want to accept a large
influx, because their guild history having done
something similar with bad results. They value
friendship over raiding strictly for gear, but
when they enter the raid; the definitely put
their game faces on. They also do heroic
instance nights as well if possible, but if not
they schedule runs for rep
grinding. _________________
