How to Sign Up

Located on the home Fantasy Basketball page, there is a section titled "Sign Up to Play." Click on this section and you will find a registration form. Fill out the form and click on "Send" to register.

The Fantasy Basketball fee is $30 for the 2000-2001 season. There is a 12 man roster.  You will have 10 active and 2 inactive players.  There will be a $1 transaction fee for every pickup as well as every player or draft pick received in a trade..

Registration will be accepted through Oct. 25, 2000.

After sending in your registration, you will receive e-mail confirmation within 48 hours. As soon as a league is filled (registration and fees are processed for 12 owners), all owners will be notified by e-mail of draft time on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000. No draft will begin before 10 a.m. EST (New York time).

Drafts and Rosters

Each team will draft 12 players – four forwards, four guards, and two centers. Plus 2 inactive players of any position.

Each team's starting lineup will consist of two forwards, two guards and one center. The remaining five active players will be designated as follows: backup forwards, backup center and backup guards.

Drafting order will be set by the commissioner before the draft. You will be notified of draft position at the same time you are notified of draft time. The draft order will be reversed after each round – if you have the No. 1 pick in Round One, you will have the last pick in Round Two. This continues through the entire draft. This process continues until all 12 teams have drafted 12 players.

In order to keep draft time reasonable, the following rules will be enforced:

1. One minute allowed per pick.

2. Teams selecting first and last will be given two minutes to make their two picks as they are back-to-back throughout the draft.

3. If time expires, the team will forfeit its pick for that round. The team may make up that pick by choosing two players in a later round.

4. Should a team, for any reason (including computer malfunction), not complete the draft, the following guidelines will be in effect:

a. if an owner is present for the start of the draft and completes 60% of drafting, the team is officially his. Completion of the roster will be done by the commissioner.

b. if an owner is present for the start of the draft and does not complete 60% of drafting, he loses all rights to that team and a new owner will be named. If that occurs, the owner has the option of drafting at a later time in another league, if a vacancy exists, or receiving a refund, less a $2 processing fee.

c. If an owner is not present by the time his turn to draft comes up, he will be replaced. If that occurs, the owner has the option of drafting at a later time in another league, if a vacancy exists, or receiving a refund, less a $2 processing fee.

5. The draft will begin approximately 15 minutes after the scheduled draft time. During the first 15 minutes, any final questions will be answered.

Playing the Game

This league uses five basic basketball statistical averages – scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks and steals. Averages will be based on each week's real life performance from Monday through Sunday.

Each team will receive points based on its starting lineup's average in the above categories. All five players averages will be added together to get a team average. Example: All five of your starters average 4.0 assists per game. Your team assists average is 20.0.

Each average is assigned to a quarter in a fantasy game. Scoring average is assigned to the first quarter, rebounding average is assigned to the second quarter, assists average is assigned to the third quarter and steals average + blocks average is assigned to the fourth quarter. So, a fantasy box score would look like this:

   1                     2                     3                        4                    Total

Scoring           Rebounding            Assists              Steals+Blocks              xxx

Now, to make all four quarters worth approximately the same, some stats have multipliers.

First quarter – Scoring average is multiplied by .25

Second quarter – Rebound average is multiplied by .5

Third quarter – Assists average is not multiplied.

Fourth quarter – Blocks and steals average each are multiplied by 2

To further illustrate this, let's say the following is your starting lineup and their stats:

                Points       Rebs     Assists    Steals   Blocks

F Malone        24          9          5          2        1

F Coleman       18          7          3          1        0

C Mutombo      15         12          2          1        4

G Strickland     18          4          8          1.5      0

G Stackhouse    21         6          4           1.5      2

Total              96       38          22          7       7

Scoring: 96 x .25 = 24

Rebounding: 38 x .5 = 19

Assists: 22 = 22

Steals: 7 x 2 = 14; Blocks 7 x 2 = 14; 14 + 14 = 28

Now, your team's box score is:

1    2    3    4    Total

24  19   22   28     93

Your team has scored 93 points.

To get a game result we compare you team's score against another – whoever has the highest total wins. Simple!

Each week your fantasy team will play four games against different opponents. The season lasts 20 weeks, for a total of 80 games.

Reserves: Your team's reserves will come into play after a starter's eligibility is used up. A fantasy player may play as many games as he did in real life from Monday through Sunday. Hence, if Karl Malone plays in three games from Monday through Sunday, he may play three fantasy games. One of your reserve's averages will be used to compute your team average instead of Malone's averages in the fourth fantasy game of the week.

Each owner will designate his backup forwards and backup guards for each starter.

Playoffs and Championship

At the end of the season, the three divisional champions and the one team with the next best record, regardless of division, will advance to the playoffs.

Playoffs will be matched up as follows: Divisional champion with best record vs. wildcard; divisional champion with second-best record vs. divisional champion with third-best record.

Playoffs will be a best-of-five format.

The two series winners will advance to the championship series, which also will be a best-of-five format.

Starting Lineups

Immediately following the draft, owners must e-mail starting lineups and reserves to the commissioner.

After the draft, any lineup changes must be e-mailed by noon each Monday. Any lineup changes received after noon Monday will be delayed until the following week.

Here's roughly the form you should use when e-mailing a lineup.

Starters              Reserves

F Malone            Gatling

F Coleman           Horace Grant

C Mutombo          C Bradley

G Strickland         Mark Price

G Stackhouse         Cassell

Transaction Rules

If you pickup a player he must stay on your roster for 1 week.  You cannot pickup a player in midweek and release him before the start of the next week unless he gets hurt.

Owners may trade players at any time before the trading deadline of yet to be determined. All trades will be voted on by all the teams not involved in the trade.  If a majority of owners vote against the trade then in will be vetoed.

In the event an owner wants to sign a new player and cut one from his roster, the owner shall e-mail the commissioner in the following manner:

Trojans wish to sign Vin Baker of Seattle. Release Reggie Miller of Indiana.

In the event two teams attempt to claim the same player who has been released in the past day on the same day, the team with the worst record will get the player.  If a player is a free agent it is first come first serve.

Continuous Leagues

Any owner who acts in a manner to destroy the league will be kicked out at anytime and will forfeit any money owed to him. The conduct will be determined by the commissioner. Examples would be calling people a cheat, threats, and any other conduct the commissioner determines to be in poor taste.

Owners may decide to make their league continuous to next season. In order for a league to become continuous, eight of 12 owners must agree to do so.

If a league becomes continuous, owners will be able to protect up to four players on their rosters.   Three players can be anyone on your roster.  The fourth player must be a player who had an overall score under 12 during the season.

There will be a 3 year limit on the amount of time a player can be out of the draft.  This means if a player is protected 3 years in a row he cannot be protected in the 4th year.

Also, owners in a continuous league may trade future draft picks, but those picks are limited to the next year's draft.  Any owner who trades a draft pick must also send in a $10 non-refundable deposit on next years team.  You will not be able to trade draft picks unless you do this.

There will be a 12 round draft in the next year.  For each of the first 3 players you protect you lose a draft pick.  If you protect 1 you lose your 1st round pick if you protect 2 you lose your 1st and 2nd round pick, if you protect 3 you lose your 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks.  If you protect a player with a score under 12 you lose your 12th round pick.  You cannot trade a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 12th round pick.

Draft order will be by worst record for rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.  The order will reverse in rounds 5, 7, 9, 11.

Prizes

League Champion: 50%
Runner-up: 30%
Third & Forth: 10% each

The money pot will be made up of all entry fees plus transaction fees.

In a continuous league there may be times when an owner taking over an existing team does not pay full entry fee price.  If this occurs (and that team wins any money) he will have that discount amount taken out of his winnings.  If the owner does not win anything then the overall money pot will be reduced.

If there is an open team when draft time comes around the team will be owned by the league.  The overall money pot will be reduced by this entry fee amount.
