Personality Types
There are two basic personality types, the old & the new. The old personality type is
characterized by a narrow, stiff, & conservative attitude. A list of the characteristics
would include:
difference is threatening, sameness is safety
the world is black & white
what is old & traditional is best
idea(l)s are more important than people
the environment is for human consumption
fear & anger are normal emotions
education is suspect (because it presents new ideas)
my tribe is superior to your tribe
i�m right, you�re wrong
authority should be obeyed
community is more important than the individual
people should control & be controlled
hierarchies are good
force is justified
someone else is responsible
knowing how to die is more important than knowing how to live
The old personality is more comfortable with depicted violence than depicted sex. The
body should be covered because its sinful, shameful, or inappropriate. It is intolerant,
fearful, ashamed, inflexible, & often borderline paranoid.
The new personality type, on the other hand, is broad, open, flexible, & liberating. A list
of its characteristics includes:
diversity is rich & beautiful, sameness should always be chosen
the world is a rainbow
what is new & innovative is best
people are more important than idea(l)s
the environment is humankind�s support system & should be respected
fear & anger are undesirable emotions
education is seminal
our tribes can co-exist
i�m right (for me) & you�re right (for you)
inner authority is more important than outer authority
authority should be questioned
the individual is more important than the community
all alliances should be freely chosen
people should be free
violence in not justified except in self-defense
i am responsible
knowing how to live is more important than knowing how to die
The new personality type is creative, wholistic, empathetic, & compassionate. The
old type is slowly dying out & the new increasing. This phenomenon is a product of
human evolution & is a source of optimism in new spirits.
