| I was brought up in a religion which believes in one Male deity. For many years this felt unnatural to me and was something I rebelled against. As an eclectic Witch I am free to believe in and worship many Gods. As I first began my interest in the craft my focus was on the Goddess. But I am starting to explore the many Gods from varying cultures. For Witches the Great Lord (God) is partner to the threefold Goddess. He is attributed to the Sun is motivated and the unifier of everything. His Three roles are Son, Consort and Lover. Some myths only divide him in two aspects not three. From Yule to Litha in waning light he is the Oak King. The God in his life giving, light summer role. From Litha to Yule he is the Holly King. The God in his slain, dark, winter role. Most Witches relate to him as the Horned God. The ruler of forests and animals. He is the link to the living world that binds all the Goddess/Lady's creations. He balances life and death of all life forms. |
