Heero: Shut up.
AK: Hey, guys, not yet! Anyway, I made it all by myself, so don't take it! The pictures were take from a doujinshi called 'Plume' and the wallpaper was taken from Lycentia's Web Graphics. Yay! Anyway, on with our story. I've become really annoyed with some fan fics lately, so I've decided to rant about them. And who better to help me than the Gundam Wing boys themselves! So, I invited them along.Say hello, boys.
Duo: Hiiiiii!
Quatre: Hello, everyone!
Wufei: *grudginly* Hello.
Heero: Hn.
Trowa: ....
AK: Okay, for anyone who wonders, the reason the GW pilots are here is because they have an extrememly large fan community who thrive on fan fics and such. This community is also mainly shonen ai, or boy-boy love.
Duo: Somehow, everyone had decided that we are all gay. Like, every single character in the series.
AK: Yah. But this is going to be a rant on all fan fics! So, first subject: warping of characters. Also know as OOC, or Outrageouly Out of Character.
Quatre: I hate it when people do that. It's not too bad, when you do it in a humorous fic, but even then, how out of character can people be before they're not the same characters?
Trowa: Somehow, I never say anything.I may be silent often, but I do talk.
Duo: And I'm always happy. To the point of acting like a two year old. Optimistic, yes. Completely stupid, no.
AK: But you're cute stupid!
Duo: Aaaahhh! Are we ranting or not here?!?!
AK: Gomen, gomen. Continue.
Quatre: I usually get portayed as an idiot too, Duo. But more like someone who's scared of his own shadow that a clueless fool.
Heero: I'm usually okay, but I feel worst for Relena. She is almost always portrayed as a clueless bitch, and has even less reason than Duo. Happy people do look stupid-
Duo: Hey, you take that back!
Heero: *not even noticing* -but Relena is a world leader. Don't people believe that she got there using some intelligence?
AK: Yeah, I hate that. People just see her as a threat to your and Duo's relationship. I was reading a really good fic the other day, where Duo and Heero had, like seven kids-
Duo & Heero: *shudder*
Duo: That was scary.
Heero: I will never have children.
AK: Yes, it was scary, but it was a serious fic, and well written. But anyway, in the middle of the story, Relena kidnaps Heero by using mind-control on him somehow, and has him hurt Duo and one of their kids in the process. She tortures Heero and laughs at Duo's pain, and won't let Heero go until he kills her. Now, that was just too wrong.
Quatre: Yes, even someone who really hates Relena should be able to see that she's not a fool.
Wufei: I think serious fics should have characters portrayed as they are in the series, at least personality wise. OOC should be reserved for humorous fics. Mixing just destroys the story.
AK: *nodsnods* That's a very good way to sum it up. So, next topic, yaoi and yuri. For those of you who don't know what they mean, explicit gay and lesbian stories, basically.
Trowa: Our series gets the worst of that. I don't see how people read all that into something.
Quatre: I don't think they all do. Maybe a couple of people saw some stuff originally, then passed it on to the rest of the fan community.
Wufei: When I was in one of my shrines-
Duo: *cough* egoist *cough*
Wufei: Oh, shut up, you do almost nothing else, braid boy! Anyway, someone had written her opinion of yaoi pairings and it went something like this: "Heero and Duo are cute, and so are Trowa and Quatre. But then Wufei would be alone, so I guess we'll pair him with Trowa. But then Quatre would be by himself, and that would make him sad. So we'll put Wufei with Heero instead, and Duo can marry Hilde or some fan girl. Yeah! That's it! We can have a raffle for everyone who wants to be Duo's girlfriend!" I'm sure they read that into the series.
AK: Well, actually, you can pretty much read Quatre and Trowa into it. Just.... I don't know, you just can. Duo and Heero, I can't really see as much, though. And Treize and Zechs, or Wufei and just about any guy, I don't see at all.
Duo: But some of it isn't really that harmless. In just about every series, whether its yuri, yaoi, or not, there are some fics written by some pretty screwed up people that are about characters screwing each other and nothing else. Besides that anything more intimate than casual friendship has been taken to be deep, passionate love.
AK: Like those Chibi-Usa x Hotaru fics from Sailor Moon. They're like seven!
Wufei: Besides the "origins of Chibi Chibi" fics. Some people obviously never watched the series or read the manga. In neither is she the daughter of Usagi, Mamoru, Setsuna, Chibi-Usa, Seiya, or anyone else.
Duo: Wufei, how come you know so much about Sailor Moon?
Wufei: *turns bright red* Maxwell! That is none of your buisness!
AK: *trying to prevent a fight from breaking out* Okay, I guess we've exaghsted that topic-
Quatre: I don't think you spelled exaughsted right.
AK: Me either. Anyway, next topic: Self-Insertion Fics!
Trowa: They aren't too bad, really.
Heero: Well, they can be.
Quatre: It really depends on the writer. Some are incredibly pointless, some are very well written and well worth reading.
Duo: The problem is, when people write SI fics, they usually have themselves saving everyone else or something like that. And who wants to read about that?
Quatre: But some are really good, and you don't realize that it's an SI fic until you think about it.
Wufei: On the other hand, some are awful, and don't deserve to be put where other people can see them.
AK: And Wufei, I believe that that wraps up another section. So, last topic, because I'm getting hungry and I want to finish this before dinner. Nicknames!
Duo: Yay! Those are cool! My favorites are Hee-chan, Twowa, Shinigami, Du-man, Wu-Wu, Cat-
Wufei: Maaaaxweeeel!
Duo: Yeah, that one's cool but it usually means - uh-oh.
Wufei: Do NOT call me Wu-Wu!
Duo: *beeda* Eiiiiii! I'm sooo scared! Whatcha gonna do 'bout it, huh, Wu-Wu?
Wufei: Aaaahhhh! Injustice?
*Wufei chases Duo around the room*
Heero: *stands up* We'd better take them home.
AK: Sure. Thanks for coming.
Quatre: It was fun. We'll come back later.
Trowa: I guess I'll catch Wufei. You got Duo, Heero?
Heero: Mission accepted. Du!
Duo: *stops dead in his tracks, causing Wufei to crash into him and knock him flat to the floor* Yah, Hee-chan?
Heero: We're leaving now. Let's go.
*Trowa picks up Wufei, who's eyes are spinning*
Everyone 'cept Wufei: Ja ne!
Wufei: Uuhhnn.....
