| Yule:December 20th,21 st, or 22nd This sabbat celebrates the rebirth of the sun. It's the winter solstice. A fire and a Yule log are usually seen on this day. A piece of the Yule log is kept to light next year's log, it's also used to protect the home during the year. It is also believed that this is the beginning day of the Wheel Of The Year. The Winter Solstice Yule is the longest night and shortest day, when we celebrate the birth of the Sun Child and reconnect with our evergreen hopes and desires for the coming year, birthing ourselves yet again into a new life.Coinsides closely with the Christian Christmas. That's because the early Church sought to win the allegianceof the populace by placing its festival at or around the time of existing Pagan festival.Represents the rebirth of light.The longest night of year, the Goddess gives birthto the Sun Child and hope for new light reborn. |
| Imbolc:Febuary 2nd Also known as Candlemas, this day marks the midpoint between Yule and the vernal equinox. This day also marks the recovery of the Goddess after giving birth to the God during Yule. In tradition after sunset, every lamp and candle in the house is lit in honor of the Sun's rebirth. Also known as Candlemas or Bridget or Bride (pronounced "Breed"). We plant seeds for the coming year and joyously welcome the return of spring.A point of equilibrium-the balance is suspended just before spring burst forth from winter.The Goddess and God are young children at play and holidayfestivals use brightly colored eggs to represent the child within. |
| Beltane= May 1 This day celebrates the merging of the Goddess and God, as the young God moves into manhood. The Goddess's fertility is celbrated aswell. It's the time for flowers and blossoming! This is also a good time to get hitched! Meaning a hand fasting, meaning a Wiccan marriage. A hand fasting usually takes place in a very natural area, like a forest or meadow. Also known as Mayday A fiery, passionate Sabbat, Beltane is a celebration of creativity, whether manifest in fertility, growth, or art. We dance the maypole and jump the Beltane fire to stoke the creative force in ourselves and in the world around us.The time of the Sacred Marriage between our Lord and Lady.This is a time of self-discovery,love, union, and personal growth. |

| Lughnasadh=August 2nd This holiday is also known as Lammas. This is the time for the first harvest of the year. The God begins to lose his strength as the days get shorter. Nothing in nature remains constant at this time and we are reminded of this on this holiday. The first of three harvest sabbats, Lammas honors the sacrifice of the Green God, who lives and grows and dies that we might eat and flourish. Also known as "First Fruits," Lammas is a time to celebrate fruit and grain and garden.A celebration of the first fruits of harvest.Now is time to teach what you have learned to share the fruits of your achievements with the world. |
| Mabon=September 20th,21st or 22nd All harvests are completed and the days and nights are equal once again.The God prepares himself for his journey towards renewal and rebirth from the Goddess. All of Nature prepares for the frosty winter ahead. The Fall Equinox Mabon is the second of the harvest holidays, the "Harvest Home," when the day and night are once again in balance and we prepare to turn toward the darkness and inner focus of winter. |
| Samhain= October 31st Everyone bids farewell to the God and he prepares still to be reborn from the Goddess at Yule. It's time to reflect on the past year and the coming of the greatest change in life and death. We remember our ancestors and loved ones this day. It's a prefect day to try to communicate with our dead friends and family. It's a good time to do a spell to rid oneself of bad habits. This marks the end of the year. Pronounced "Sow-un." Also known as Hallowmas,The last of three harvest Sabbats, Samhain is the Witch's New Year, the time when we honor the dead and celebrate the new souls that have joined us in the previous year. The veil is thin between the world of "here and now" and the Summerland, and we reach through to know the mystery of death and rebirth.It is said to be the time when the veil between the worlds are very thin, when souls that are leaving this physical plan can pass out and souls that are reincarnating can pass in. The Goddess reigns as the Crone, and the God, passes into the underworld to become the seed of his own rebirth. |
