Witta

Witta is, before anything else, a religion.  One of many paths of paganism generally associated with witchcraft.  Literally translated, "witchcraft" means "the craft of the wise" and embodies harmony with nature and the energy of the world.  It is a magical religion and lifestyle whose main tenants are centered around worship of the Great Life Force and all the glories created thereby.

Belief in magic was an accepted part of the religious practices of Celtic Irish life.  It was not viewed as supernatural, indeed the ancient Celts were very grounded in the natural world.  Magic was as natural as could be, a basic manipulation of the forces of energy around one.

Witta, like most pagan religions has very few of the strict rules commonly associated with "organized" religion.  The two uncompromising rules that do exist are the Wittan Rede and the Three Fold Law. These two rules apply to all living being and are explicit in stating one's responsibility to do no harm to others or to oneself.

Wittan practices are generally very simple, dating back to a time when ritual came a late second to heartfelt communication directly with the Great Life Force.  Reverence for the deities was first and foremost, any hoped for intervention with the human realm was not the priority.
