| What is PAGANISM? Paganism means different things to different people. We define Paganism as an Earth based belief system honoring the Forces of Nature as sacred. That's a very broad definition but we feel it is an accurate one.The Webster's dictionary's discription of Pagan is heathen.I have never meet a Pagan would was a heathen, atleast not in this life time. The word,"Pagan", orginally meant "country dweller." Today, many people who describe themselves as Pagan live in cities but they still have reverence for the Earth and it's seasonal cycles. Before there were grocery stores and wide spread distribution of goods, people's connection to the Earth was more immediate. Everything you ate, you or your neighbor, had to grow. All life reflected the sesasonal cycles of the Natural world. Modern Pagans recognize the deep spiritual connection we all have with the Earth and honor the seasonal cycles by celebrating holidays based on the Solar Year. There are many different traditions and belief systems in modern Paganism. Each honors the cycle of planting, harvest and rest particular to it's geographic location of origin. We have chosen to celebrate the Celtic Wheel of the Year because we both have Celtic heritage and we live where the seasons follow the tradition. |
