Acceptance in Divine Time

By Terri Posey de Man

Recently, I spent the morning with my own massage therapist, a wonderful 60-something-year-old grandmother who is a kind and gentle soul. We generally talk the whole time that we work together - no matter which of us is on the table. Because JS is an enlightened soul, I take full advantage of her - borrowing on her wisdom and insights. I love her to pieces, am thankful to have her as one of my "teachers," and think of her as my own earth-bound guardian spirit.

While she was working on me, we started talking about acceptance. Not the general kind of acceptance in the sense that everyone just wants to be accepted as they are, without reservation; but the acceptance of Spirit and what the Universe has to offer us all as Spiritual beings.

JS told me that when she was first starting out as a therapist, she - like so many of us - used to panic when a client canceled their appointment. It's easy to go from a place of abundance to The Land of Lack when you are staring at a stack of bills and a client cancels. I fully understand this concept, because until recently, I jumped the fence and headed for Lack's borders anytime I suddenly found myself with an afternoon free.

However, several months ago, I had an afternoon with three hour-long massage appointments scheduled back to back. When I got to the office, I found that all three had canceled. However, my first reaction wasn't to run for the border, but just the thought of "how strange that all three should cancel." As it turned out, I had four people walk in that afternoon who desperately needed my help. Because of the cancellations, I was free to be able to assist those who really needed me at the moment.

This is when I fully realized that I would be taken care of, no matter what. I have offered my life in service to those who need my abilities, and the Universe will send me what I need, when I need it, if only I am willing to accept what is being offered for the greater good.

This concept was reinforced the week of Thanksgiving. The time right around the Holidays is generally slow for Massage Therapists because people are so caught up in the excitement and "doing" for other people that they neglect themselves, especially when it comes to massage. Thanksgiving week I had absolutely no massage appointments scheduled whatsoever. But I didn't panic because I really needed the time off. I had a fleeting thought about money, but I felt that the free week would be more helpful at the time.

And like the champ that the Universe is, it stepped in and gave me what I needed, when I needed it. I had a couple of days off, and then at the last minute, Christopher called from the barn and asked if I could come in and work on the December issue of Aquarius News on Friday and Saturday. Here was the money that I needed to meet my financial obligations, PLUS the couple of days off that I had wanted.

Christian scripture (Matthew 6:33) tell us "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all of these things shall be added unto you." But I like what Marianne Williamson had to say even better: "Seek ye first the kingdom of Heaven and the Maserati will get here when it's supposed to."

I am fully convinced that prayers are always answered in the affirmative. We just have to be ready, and willing to accept what the Universe has to offer. When we pray for something and we don't receive it, perhaps it is because we are not truly spiritually and emotionally ready to receive it. Perhaps it is because we are still stuck in The Land of Lack and are so focused on the consequences of NOT receiving it that what we bring into our lives is more Lack. If we're not thankful for the gifts that have already been bestowed upon us and can only focus on what we don't have, why in the world would Spirit give us something we're not yet ready to receive?

It wouldn't . . .

. . . and it doesn't.

Thank you, Spirit, for helping me to learn this lesson.

Here's my Solstice wish - for myself as well as for each of you: May we be thankful for what we have been given and may we always be ready to accept Spirit's Divine Gifts in Divine Time.

Blessings,

Terri
