Size "G" hook 4 ply worsted weight yarn - @ 39 yds MC; @ 18 yds CC

Basic Grannys Daughter Square:

Ch 4, join with slst to form ring. Ch 3. In ring work, 2 dc; (ch 3, 3 dc) 3x, ch 3. Join with a slst to 3rd ch of beginning ch 3. Finish off, weaving in all ends.

Two Color Grannys Daughter Square:

With MC, ch 4, join with slst to form ring. Ch 3. In ring work, 2 dc, ch 2; tie on CC, (do not end off MC - carry unused yarn along the back of the of the sq along center ch 4 loop - work over the unused color when working dc's into ring), ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1; drop CC, pick up MC, ch 2, work 3 dc, ch 2; drop MC, pick up CC, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1; drop CC, pick up MC, ch 2. Join with a slst to 3rd ch of beginning ch 3. Finish off, being sure to secure all yarn ends, and weave in.

Squares Needed For Pattern:

Basic - 1 MC, 4 CC
Two Color - 4

When all 9 sqs are done, using MC, wip stitch tog as shown in example.

Border:

Rnd 1 - Attach MC with slst in any corner space, ch 1, in same corner, work sc, ch 2, sc; (sc in next 3 dc, sc in corner space, ch 1, sc in next corner space) 2x; sc in next 3 dc, work sc, ch 2, sc in corner space. Continue to work around block in this manner, having 5 sc in each Grannies' Daughter, and ch 1, between each at joining, and sc, ch 2, sc in corners. End with slst in to 1st sc made.

Rnd 2 - Slst into ch 2 corner space; work ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in same corner space; (ch 1, sk 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 1, sk 2 sts, 3 dc in ch 1 space on previous row) 2x; ch 1, sk 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 1, sk 2 sts, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc all in corner space. Continue to work around block in this manner, having 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in each corner; 6 ch 1 spaces, and 9 dc on each side. End with slst in to 3rd ch of initial ch 3.

Rnd 3 - Slst into ch 3 corner space, ch 2, work 1 hdc ch 2, 2 hdc in same corner space; work hdc in each st and space across to corner. In corner, work 2hdc, ch2, 2hdc. Continue to work around block in this manner, having 25 hdc along each side with ch 2 at corners. End off. Weave in ends.
