Moonlight Rendevous

The moon, etched against the darkness,
outwardly displays flawless perfection to us.
Perfumed by the nights flowers,
suspended in the haze,
time becomes irrelevant.
An entourage of clouds
accompanies her through the night.
In light almost nonexistent, they approach her.
They beckon from a distance,
purveying promises to her
of a shrouded rendezvous.
Mocking her with encounters
not consummated.
Luring her, with promises unfulfilled.
And still they move toward her,
closer...almost within her reach,
but not within her embrace.
She is resolute in her desire.
She must fulfill
that which is powerful within her.
The yearning to be held..
even for a moment,
by one who will fade into the obscurity of night,
without a last kiss,
without a lingering embrace,
without a promise of return.
The blackness of the night sky
is paralleled only by the emptiness she feels.
Night after night, she watches..
waiting, wanting.
We react to her passion
with a sense of empathy,
knowing full well what she is experiencing.
The passion without release,
the yearning, unanswered,
the love, unrequited.
Tonight, we are suspended
with her in the darkness..
understanding finally,
that passion is not earthly bound.
