Rats had
established a little community in the Monza’s engine compartment while it was
stored at the farm. Their urine and
droppings as well as the miscellaneous debris they brought into the car to
build their nests all contributed to moderate corrosion throughout. The engine compartment was thoroughly
cleaned and treated to kill the rust before painting it. Because of the abundant supply of better
food in the farm, the rats spared most of the wiring. However, various components had rotted away
or were simply missing. Tim Waymaster
in Hazel Park, MI supplied most of the parts I needed to bring the
engine compartment back to nearly original condition.
Although
the engine compartment is now almost completely original, this is a temporary
condition. The 2.5L installation will
be transplanted into my father’s 1975 Towne Coupe as soon as I have all the
components for the V8 conversion on hand.
