SERVICE PROJECTS
On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
I will do my best to be: Honest and fair, Friendly and helpful, Considerate and caring, Courageous and strong, and Responsible for what I say and do. And to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
We say it, but, do we MEAN it? Service projects can be FUN! Remember, to the girls, this is not work! The joy and satisfaction they get out of service projects can be directly related to the response they get from either the recipients or from the leader and parents. Especially for younger scouts, remember to praise and extoll the good and joy they bring.

FEATURED SERVICE PROJECTS The following two projects were found on the web. They seem like such easy and worthwhile projects with little work or cost. Especially suited to Daisies and Brownies, these two projects can be done elaborately by Cadettes and Seniors. Make a Child Smile is a web page which features 3 new children a month who have terminal diseases. Simply pick one or all three and send a card. One per girl or one from your troop. You can do this once or every month for an ongoing project. If you are going to send to just one of the three featured children, why not tell the girls about all three and have them choose. This will bring the project to a personal level for them instead of "just a sick kid" As a parent, imagine how you would feel to see hundreds of cards coming in for your child! Color a Smile is a web page that asks you to color a picture. Anyone who requests these pictures are then sent the colorings. They ask not to use glitter, paint, folding cards, etc. See the web site. The site even has downloadable coloring pages if you think the girls couldn't think of their own pictures, (Huh! Girl Scouts without ideas? Well, sometimes)
