In the year 1935 many things changed in and around the country of Persia, one of which was it's name. It became Iran, and it's people are Iranians.
The history of Iranians in Montreal is not an old one at all.There were two groups of Iranians who traveled to Montreal. The dividing factor in the groups is the Revolution in Iran in 1979. The first group was mostly older and richer than the Iranians who were fleeing because of the revolution. Many Iranian businesses had troubles during the time of the revolution. But Iranians never stopped immigrating into Montreal. In 1986 there was an estimated 3,500 Iranians throughout montreal, and in 1990 an estimated 10,000. In the recent past depended fully on what was happening in Iran itself. |
