The first Vietnamese Qubeckers were University students who settled there after finishing their studies. They were followed by professionals, doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, manufacturers and army officers. In 1978 Canada began accepting Vietnamese refugees and over a hundred thousand arrived including Montreal?s most notorious Vietnamese immigrant, General Dang Van Quang. He was accused of torture in Vietnam and making a fortune off of illegal drugs during the Vietnam War. The largest wave of refugees came when Vietnam was battling Cambodia in the 1970?s.
