Local Youth Selected To Serve on National Conservation

Youth Leadership Council

Litchfield April 22, 2006 Ashley Bishop of Litchfield has been named to the Pheasants Forever National Youth Leadership Council. Ashley was nominated by the Montgomery County Chapter of Pheasants Forever because Ashley has been a volunteer at the annual Pheasants Forever Banquet, has helped establish habitat, enjoys the outdoors, fishes, and exercises her fathers bird dog. Ashley is the daughter of Glenn and Kim Bishop and a ninth grade student at Litchfield High School. This fall, Ashley earned a varsity letter in golf. Ashley received the Illinois Principal Association Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement and Student and School Citizenship for her service to her school in eighth grade.

Applicants for the Youth Leadership Council from Montgomery County were asked to write about their interest in the outdoors, their skills, and accomplishments. Ashley wrote, Not only do I fish but I help my dad hunt also. My dads dog, Chrissy, needs to get into shape before the season begins. I take her on a mile and a half run around our sixty-acre farm behind my house. Ashley concluded her application by writing, I love spending time outdoors, whether it be fishing, training my dog, or creating a nice habitat. I enjoy and look forward to the Pheasants Forever Banquet every year. I also understand all of the fun, love, and care that go into spending time outdoors. I hope I can help other kids understand this concept too.

As a member of the Youth Leadership Council, Ashley will be representing her age group on conservation and hunting issues. She will be a spokesperson to represent her views and interests for Pheasants Forever, a national non-profit habitat conservation organization. Recognizing that the future of habitat and sound conservation practices rests with the next generation, Pheasants Forever is assembling a group of youth ages 10 to 15 from around the country who are interested in wildlife, hunting, conservation and being outdoors. As advisors, they will offer ideas for magazine and website content, outdoor activities for youth events and chapter youth programs.

The Montgomery County Chapter of Pheasants Forever was selected to nominate a youth because of the outstanding work they do with youth programs such as the Annual Youth Hunt, Sponsorship of the Scholastic Trapshooting Team, and the Annual Art Contest.

PF is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of pheasant and other wildlife populations in North America through habitat improvement, land management, public awareness, and education.  Such efforts benefit landowners and wildlife alike.  PFs unique system puts chapters in the drivers seat with 100% of the decision on how locally raised chapter funds are spent to improve wildlife habitat.  Headquartered in St. Paul, Minn., PF has more than 110,000 members in over 600 local chapters across the United States and Canada.
