The Montgomery Chapter of Pheasants Forever received recognition in several areas at the Saturday, January 31st 2004 Pheasants Forever Illinois State Convention at The Chateau in Bloomington, Illinois. 32 out of 37 active chapters in Illinois were represented by more than 200 delegates. The Montgomery County Chapter of Pheasants Forever was named first in the state for introducing youth to the outdoors through the magazine, �Ringneck.� Also, Montgomery County ranked second in the state with a membership of 239.  Finally, Glenn Savage, Youth Chairman for Montgomery County, was named National Educator of the Year for Pheasants Forever.
Dave Jenkins, Montgomery County President, accepted the award for working with youth from Ed Pembleton, National Leopold Education Director for Pheasants Forever and Tom Schwartz, Pheasants Forever Biologist.  The award was inscribed with the words, �Pheasants Forever wishes to recognize the Montgomery County Chapter for introducing the most youth to the outdoors in 2003.  Your efforts will ensure that our heritage will be passed on to future generations.  Thank you and congratulations.�  During an interview after the award, Dave Jenkins said, �Montgomery County Pheasants Forever annually enrolls Montgomery County youth in �Ringneck� a youth conservation magazine, sponsors an annual Conservation Art Contest, puts on a Youth Hunt, participates in the Conservation Expo as part of the Montgomery County Fair, donates to the Leopold Education Project, donates to the local clay bird shooting team, and donates to the Hunter Safety Education Program.�  Dave Jenkins went on to say, �If anyone is looking to volunteer to assist in planning our local Pheasants Forever Banquet or to volunteer in other areas of conservation through PF, call me at 229-3072.�
Glenn Savage was awarded the Leopold Education Project�s LEP Educator of the Year award which was inscribed, �Presented to Glenn Savage in recognition of your selfless effort in striving for a land ethic and for furthering the cause of the Leopold Education Project and Conservation Education. And for achieving and embodying the goal of the Leopold Education Project: to instill a love, a respect and an admiration for the land, leading to an ecologically literate citizenry.�
