The Underground
The underground is a group devoted to undermining the current government in Monte Mal. The members are insurgents who have become fed up with the levels of oppression and corruption apparent throughout the city.
The underground works out of the poorer sections of town. It is here, where the oppression and tyranny is most apparent, that the underground found its start among a group of inhabitants who had been treated as slaves. These people, mostly Calibans, were sick of the way they had been mistreated. They decided that it was necessary to bring down the Doge and the Council of Ten, and to install a new Doge and Council. The new rulers would, if all went to plan, be more responsive to the needs of the people, and end the mistreatment.
While the underground’s goal is noble, their methods are far from it. They have been executing raids into the richer sections of the city, defacing the buildings, looting, and sometimes resorting to bombings. It is there hope that if they show the government as unable to control them, the wealthy citizens will become fed up with the situation and call for a new Doge.
The underground is currently run by a charismatic Elf named Xan’aral. He runs the group with the help of a committee consisting of representatives from the various groups being oppressed. His second in command is a dwarf named Ulfgar Stonefist.
